I'm currently looking at a used 2014 GT Timberline 2.0. This thing has barely been used and is like new. Still has the nubs on the original tires. They only want $200

Is this a decent mountain bike? I have a cheap Wal-Mart bike that got me started and I'm looking at upgrading. The thing I can't stand about my cheap bike is it's really heavy and the gears seem to be all out of whack after I take it on the trails

Do some comparative shopping online/ebay and haggle away! It's definitely a step up and a decent deal, but not on the high end of biking equipment.
