My 16 Tacoma has a strange rotational noise almost like a scuffing or binding coming from the front left wheel area I believe. It has been looked at by dealership, I even presented a recording of it to the tech rep and the dealership can find no answers, The brakes were replaced last week by the dealership due to another issue and they assured me they tried to diagnose the sound but had no answers. It can be heard at low speeds below 20mph as when approaching a stop. I hear it with brakes are applied or not, transmission in drive or neutral, engine on and off, and i suspect its always there just not heard due to road noise at higher speed. Its driving me crazy that this is a quality issue and should be fixed under warranty. Any ideas out there? Transmission? Bearings? Disc ?

4x4? Sounds like the "normal" needle bearing noise in the front diff.

@DOS43 take a look at this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/what-is-the-sound-im-hearing-when-slowing-to-a-stop.462535/

I believe this is the noise you're describing? I have the same one, but have yet to have it diagnosed. A member in the linked thread mentioned that his dealer replaced his t-case as a result of it, but I'm not sure of any follow ups (@M80 taco ?).

For those saying this is the needle bearing, my understanding is that the needle bearing sounds should "go away" when placed in 4wd. This sound will not. For me, it's louder in the cab of the truck than it is from outside.

Just a thought, dust cover rubbing on the front rotor? Had it happen on a car before and drove me nuts.
