I tried checking it out online, and it shows the same problem for multiple front suspension parts, not just the LBJs.

I went into the dealer and bought the LBJ in-person a year or so ago, and there was no question or confusion concerning type/grade/differences then. Lemme see if I can dig up the receipt and find the part number they gave me. Even though mine's 4wd, I imagine 6-lugs share the same LBJ?

    Thanks, appreciate that.

You would think Toyota would make it a little easier. The dealership parts counter guy couldn't even tell the difference, but he said that the VIN lead him to a specific right and left. The local stealership wanted $165 for the right one. No thanks.

If I need to, I'll call them back and ask for the part numbers.

    Alright, I found the receipt.

It doesn't specify right or left on the receipt, but it does give two different part numbers, labeled "Joint Assy Lwr B" for each.

    43330-39556 $129.35
    43340-39436 $117.50

The -556 looks to match the "Right W/Prerunner" in the online part catalogue, but it doesn't show the -436, which I assume would be the left. A Google search with the part number does show it to be the LH ball-joint, but I have no idea why it's not showing up through the dealer part search, especially since I bought mine through a dealer to begin with...

Maybe you'll have better luck giving the dealership that specific part number and see what they say? If no luck, try a different dealer.

    95-04 LBJs interchangeable.

Comes with bolts: 43340-39585 (LH) and 43330-39815 (RH)
Comes without bolts: 43340-39436(LH) and 43330-39556 (RH)

Usually people replace both together. With 166,000 miles on them, then you really should do both.

Also, at the risk of starting another debate, just go with OEM and get another 100,000+ out of them.

I put these on my truck and are working well so far. They stick through further than stock but still clear the axle.
They feel stronger than stock also. I could not torque stock bolts to the 59 ft/lb with out stretching where as the McMaster bolts did not stretch.

Now I get it, he was turning into his driveway and his OEM ball joint broke off, but he should replace it with OEM parts because they are better?

After 200k on them. The problem is in the application of the ball joint and was corrected on 2nd gens - they're kept in constant tension and a failure causes the spindle to separate from the LCA rather than just not working smoothly like in the new design. Here's the dissection of both:
