So, I've done my searching and come up with nothing that quite matches my situation. I've tried the vsc zero calibration and disconnected the battery for a good half hour while I was grocery shopping last night. I had my trailer plug come undone on the interstate over the weekend and before I noticed, it had destroyed the brake control wire. I took it in to a RV shop the next morning and got that fixed. While they fixed my busted plug I left to go get some gas. As I pulled out of their lot without the trailer, my VSC light came on and hasn't gone off since. I've read a bunch of threads about the VSC calibration after a lift, bigger tires, etc, but nothing like this. Anyone seen/heard of anything like this one before?

Update, it was actually the slip indicator, not the VSC light.

So, I dug into my issue a bit more yesterday. I found this procedure for checking DTCs throughout the truck. The steps outlined are for a Hilux but work just the same on my 2015 Tacoma: http://www.moranbahweather.com/toyota/hilux/repair2/html/frame_rm000003o4k002x.html

The only code displayed was a repeating 6 on the slip indicator light. I wasn't able to match that to any issue, so I went and cleared the codes. Drove the truck home from work and back again this morning and the light has not returned. My guess is, that bumping along on side roads, with a heavy trailer and no trailer brakes caused some slip/yaw/whatever that the truck's computer shit itself over and set the light on. I'll watch the light for a while and certainly in another week when I'm towing the camper from MA to PA and report back if anything changes, but for now, I'm considering the problem gone.

So, I had the problem come back while I was towing to PA. I figured out the trigger though. The light was being set with a code 66, if I had to maneuver the trailer through turns in a tight space. I did some more reading while on vacation and found that the code 66 is for "Steering Angle Sensor Zero Point Malfunction". Something about maneuvering the trailer in tight turns is setting it off, after it happens my steering angle seems to be off. I found another post on the Toyota Nation forums which lead me to the code/meaning. I never did go through the zero point calibration described below, just clearing the codes seems to set everything right for me including the steering angle.

    From ToyotaNation: thread
    1. I run an OBD test without scanner by jumping #4 and #13 and then turned on the key. The slip indicator flashed 66.
    2. Searched code 66 led me to believe " Steering Angle Sensor Zero Point Malfunction"
3.followed http://share.qclt.com/%E4%B8%B0%E7%9...em/0370025.pdf and did zero point calibration. http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/sh....php?p=3312545.
    4. Now the slip indicator light is off and the traction off switch works.

Just discovered this after hours of searching. Towed a 4k lb. travel trailer for the first time with this truck and 2 minutes in the slip indicator lit up and has been on since. I also noticed that the front steering angle would temporarily go all wonky. the steering issue would pass after a moment but I could swear the TRAC was active because the engine was working way to hard to get up to speed. Im using an aftermarket brake controller but this seems closer to my issue. Did this permanently solve the issue for you?
