Looking To trade my Colorado for a Taco.
    Hi,

Looking at replacing my 2011 Sierra 1500 with either a Tacoma or a Tundra. Being that I do not tow every day, thinking a Tacona would better suit my needs. When I do tow, it will be 6,000 pounds.

Looking at a Dbl cab 3.5 6 speed manual 4x4.

Was looking to see what axle ratio these have, found 4:30, is that correct?

I miss the manual, want another. But, are the auto's durable?

    Thanks,

    Will

I think if are towing 6k lbs you should probably get a Tundra. Good Luck!

How often will you be towing 6000 lb and over what distance? 6000 lb is almost at the Tacoma's towing capacity.

Why are so many afraid to tow up to the 6500 limit? I've done it several times and it's fine as long as you drive like you're towing something.

To the OP the manuals on Tacomas make towing easy, the gearing works well for it.

I guess it would be ok as long as you have the right braking system on the trailer. And how often you tow 6,000lbs

Just because there is a max doesn't mean you should use that max rating.
They make an extra large bikini, that doesn't mean it should be used.
The Tacoma may tow that pretty good considering the load, but with a 6,000 lb load I would want a full size truck just for that extra safety measure.
OP, you need to consider how often and how far you tow that 6k, that will help in your decision.

I live high altitude near mountains, I would hate to tow 6000lbs.

But the right driver can do it, just take more time and more fuel stops.

This will be my last GM, Tundra 4.6/5.7 is still the leadrr, just keeping an open mind.

The iforce 4.6 makes more hp and equals torque of my 04 5.3 - that's impressive.

If you are going to get the tundra, i would opt for the 5.7...way more power and mpg is about the same.

The new Silverado with 6.2L and 10 speed transmission would blow that away. Talk to @Threerun who dumped his taco for one.

In all seriousness, I appreciate your dedication to this site. Even though I have had zero of the problems you have, I think people need to hear all sides of the story. Also, one of our work trucks is a 2500hd diesel and holy shit that thing could pull a mountain. That being said, after 5 hours driving it back from a job, I'm always happy to climb into my tacoma.

6000lbs is a lot of weight to be towing on a regular basis with the Tacoma IMO. Fun truck to drive though.
