Part maketing but..I've tried using walking sticks, trekking poles and even old ski poles for stream wading. They helped somewhat but the inability to fold/break down was a problem. Having a stick teathered to you while wading is sketchy and just gets in the way and the trekking poles weren't strong enough for bigger/fast water. I ended up just getting this (I waited for a good sale after Christmas when they were 50% off):
    https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/36466?feat=4905-GN3&page=folstaf-wading-staff&csp=f
The Folstaf is pretty stout, makes it much safer to navigate the faster waters for sure. I haven't had any issues with durability or bending and I've used it in some serious fast water with lots of foot twisting rocks that can catch and bend a weak wading staff.

I need one for salmon fishing. I go for a swim at least once a trip.

Oh yeah, wakes you up and keeps you going.

I had a fairly big king on one year, and was trying to get to shore to fight it. Foot hit a boulder, down I went. Bent my knees, trapped the air, and floated down stream about 100 yards, continuing to reel the whole time. People kept asking if I was ok. I eventually found my feet and landed the salmon. I was surprisingly dry with my wading jacket and waist pack on.

Cut & broke off some stuff.
that LLB folding style is what i borrowed last fall for a few days. Had problem with it coming apart but it was pretty old. Tried a telescoping style Cabelas brand. It flexed and shook it fast water but held ok.

I'm just getting back into fishing after a 20 yr break (not sure why i quit, other stuff to do i guess).
Can't believe prices on gear now.

    Yes.
I have the Patagucci one. Love it. Holds a ton more than it appears.
It has been perfect for what I am doing.

And I got a smaller pack - mayfly pouch, I think is what it is. Got that off ebay. That is even more minimal for when I need it.

Yes, this one is cool too. Very small, very minimal.
I keep it in my sling pack when I don't use it because I attached a few tools to it that I need.
It has space for a spool of tippet, slim fly box and a few other small items. I do like it.
No place for water though. I suppose a camelback would work for people.

Yeah, the one I got was off ebay and it seemed like a person that was maybe selling stuff that someone didn't need anymore (know what I mean? :()

    Just searched Mayfly pouch.
I will try to poke around to see what I can find.

Thanks! I tried for a bit here at work, but can't spend too much time on it.

Might as well just carry a purse.
