    Hey guys,
Time to put some new tires on my truck. Been running General Grabber AT2s which I've loved. However, the guy at Discount Tire was trying hard to sell me these:

    http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/ti...-Kf+4w__.dtc301?tmn=Sport+S+A/T&typ=Truck/SUV

The only reason I'm even considering them is because they're $200 cheaper than the Generals. I've never heard of them, and can find very little info online about them. He told me they're made by Kumho for Discount Tire. A quick google search brings up an epinions.com site with several negative comments about them. I'm just wondering if anyone has had some first hand experience with them and if they run well on our size truck.

My gut is telling me to just go with the Generals and be done with it. Any thoughts?

    thanks,
    -Jay

The Pathfinder S/AT is an example of the world's largest independent tire company buying out a tire manufacturer's existing tire and re-branding it. It comes with a 60k mile treadlife warranty, and is a decent tire.

If you never go offroad or just do light trails occasionally, this is going to be a really solid option for you, as it will provide you with a smooth, quiet ride. Not sure if you deal with snow in your area, but it also carries the severe service emblem, which means it performs as well as a tire designed specifically for snow.

With that said, it's much less aggressive than the AT2. Not sure why people shy away from Coopers, but the Cooper Discoverer AT3 would be a huge upgrade from the General AT2 (of which which I am not a fan). This is what I run on my truck.

    Thanks for the reply,
Have you ran the Pathfinders on your truck? How do they wear/balance? I'd love to find some Cooper AT3s, they just don't seem to be available in my area. I may keep searching.

The Pathfinder label has been applied to a few tires over time; the current generation is only a few months old. I have not run Pathfinders and never will. I prefer a more aggressive tread. With that being said, I have seen how these tires have performed under the Kumho label. They balance easily and are above-average where it comes to treadwear.

If you're serious about AT3's, just ask your Discount Tire to order them. They aren't difficult to get hands on at all.

    I just heard about these tires yesterday. When trying to find any info I found your post here and the same epinions you found. The epinions one is old, the last post was 2009 and these tires came out in 2013. From what dxpsman said about them being made by Kumho I found this;

If you look up reviews on these tires it should give you a better idea.

Anyone ever put these on their truck? Discount recommended these to me as well... obviously for good reason of their own. It sounds like it's not a bad tire though from the comments above. I am mostly driving on the highway with some light off roading when I take my dirt bike out... or hit the mountains to snowboard.

I just bought new wheels and want a more aggressive looking tire without losing the smooth & quiet ride on the highway.

If you want something more aggressive, I don't think the Pathfinder is the right tire for you. It has a very radial look it, nothing really standing out as far as the tread pattern goes.

I'd suggest the General Grabber AT2 for you. Its very similar to a BFG All Terrain as far as tread pattern goes, and they wear really well. You will get some tire roar at highway speeds, but you won't find an aggressive looking tire without some noise at speed.

Now if you want a little more road manners, but not quite as aggressive tread, I'm currently running Toyo AT2s, and they have been awesome so far. They balanced great, hardly no road noise, and still provide good traction in the dirt.

I'm looking at the Pathfinders (Discount Tire). Do you mind disclosing the price you pd for the Tires you selected, and the cost difference to the Pathfinders? Did you get your tires at Discount, or another co? Thx.

I went with what I had, Dynapro ATMs. When I went back the second time another employee said that some of the tires are great and sometimes they suck. For another $100 I got the Dynapros and love them. $750 vs $850 265/75/16s.

I picked up my truck used and it has the kumho version on it currently. I have no complaints about them. They are quiet and seem to have worn pretty well. No wet traction issues and the little bit of snow they have seen this year they have been ok in. Havent done any offroading yet so I can not say how well they will handle that.

    ABS sucks.
I am also seriously contemplating the Pathfinders before this winter.

We do get snow/ice up here in New England. Sometimes a lot of it. Anyone else in the snowbelt have first hand experience with these tires? The ratings are higher than some of the Coopers, and these carry the severe weather snowflake symbol apparently. With proper rotation, I should be able to get at least 3 years out of them...

Just bought a set for my truck. Ran them the past year on my wifes Pilot. Only issue has been I haven't rotated and the wear has been uneven, my fault. She has a heavy foot and rips up tires. Seem to run well, pretty quiet. Time will tell. $200 less than Yokos, $400 than Michellins.

Run them on my 4runner good tires, provides great traction, only issue I ever had was a woodchip punctured the sidewall. Was my fault though booking it down my dirt road right after ditch mowers ran through. Overall good tire especially for the price never failed me in mud, trails, or highway even rides really smooth all the way up to 75. I can't hear them over my exhaust but my buddies jeep has the same tires and they roar a bit but no where near bad enough to bother you at least not me anyways.

like others have said they drive well, balance easy, good wet weather traction but they are definitely wearing out faster than expected. at 26k miles on mine and they will most likely be done by 35k miles. their 60k warranty claim seems off cause mine have nice even wear

Long time lurker. I had them put on when when I bought my 08 pre runnner. 265 65 17. I hated them a little more than a year in. I'm a technician and for the money get the coopers. These are junk and leak air with the tiniest punctures. Not a good working truck tire
