Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
I have the ST Maxx. If I wanted quiet, they would be my first choice. They're not super loud, but not quiet either. Look at the Cooper AT3 or ATW.

A lot of votes for the Cooper AT3's. I may have to take a look at those next time around. So far I've had my Hankook Dynapro ATMs (P metric) for about 10k miles and no noticeable noise. Conversations with persons in the car or via Bluetooth are no problem with the all windows closed.

But heavy as a mo fo, if he doesn't off road, no point in getting a beefy tahr like the ST Maxx. :)

I have the Cooper A/TW's and they're pretty quiet. They do have a bit of the high-pitched whine at highway speeds that most winter tires have but it's not bad and doesn't put me to sleep like the Duratracs did.

Wow, so much information from people who are just kidding them sevles and are blinded by how "cool" the tires look. OP is concerend about noise and surprise surprise the first recommendation is the KO2's which are the most aggressive AT tire and not in any way "slighty louder" or near stock tire quiet. I can hear them in my buddies new Sierra which has a quieter cabin then the Tacoma's. Granted they aren't loud but you notice them. Then a few recommend hybrid tires which are even worse. Why can't people just be honest and helpful? The AT3 is a great recommendation, well price and a great performer. If you want to spend BFG money and want quiet and good road manners the Michelin AT is an excellent choice. Also a vote for the Hankooks here.

Good luck OP, just remember the more aggressive the tire the louder they will be.

I think tread warranty is 5,000 miles different.

Here's a link describing the differences. I had the AT3s on my second gen but had a hard time keeping them balanced. I replaced them with Michelin AT2s and never had an issue. While the Michelins were at best a light AT tire they had surprisingly decent grip, are fine for light off-roading, and were much quieter than the Coopers. They also handled better around curves than the Coopers.

Cooper makes great tires but you can run into balancing issues with them that you likely won't experience with Michelin because Michelin AT tires are made from a one piece mold as opposed to several different sections. At the time I was complaining of second gen drivetrain vibration issues so the Michelins were courtesy of Toyota (who was trying to blame the Cooper tires). Toyota said the Michelins would perform far better on my Sport and they were right. I still had drivetrain vibration issues but the tires did help quite a bit (likely had two issues going on and didn't know it). I'm in a third gen OR now with stock GYs and they have been great so far (very quiet). Best of luck on the tire search!

I'm pretty happy with Maxxis A/T, pretty quiet and good all around tire.

If you're driving 40,000 a year a P-rated All-Season tire with a second setup to run something more aggressive or snow tires will pay for itself in $$ saved even if you only get a 2-3 mpg bump. Plus you might get 2 years out of some All-Season tires vs maybe 1.5 years if you're lucky out of All Terrains.

Running some of these recommendations for heavy aggressive tires even if they are initially quiet they almost always get louder as they wear even with proper rotation and balance. Plus I'm assuming you're either getting reimbursed, the mileage is factored into your pay, or you're claiming it come tax time. The less you spend on gas the better, the more money in your pocket. You're looking at an average of ~ 155 miles a day Monday through Friday 52 weeks a year. I know I'd rather have a highway thread for that.

THIS. My AT tires are wearing down quickly after 30 months and 30,000 miles. I've started commuting 107 miles a day. Thankfully, my mileage is reimbursed, and some of that that will go towards new tires down the line. Pretty much all tires (besides Michelins) get loud after 15,000 miles.
