i think I'm down to either GoodYear Duratracs or BFG's KO's for occasional off Road camping. I'm looking for low noise, smooth ride and low impact on mpg and wonder about tire size that won't require me to take off factory mud flaps or other mod's. So the two part question is which tire brand do ppl prefer and can I go from factory 265/65 x 17 to 255/70 x 17 without rubbing issues?

Elaborate... You want to go with smaller tires and your concerned with rubbing from decreasing size?

Edit: Sorry Im tard didn't see the 65>70

    265/65 is a 30.6" tire. 255/70 is 31.1"

Not much of a difference. You should be fine with either.

I may have the size wrong. I was thinking I would want to increase sidewall size in order to fill the wheel well appearance. I have the crew cab with the 6 foot box and think that staying at the factory size may look too small?
Excuse my lack of knowledge in this area, tire sizes aren't my strong point. I'm really just looking for suggestions on what folks think would look best in a more aggressive tread.

Duratracs are now available in standard load in 265/70/17 as well as General Grabber AT2, Toyo open country AT2. The KO2 will be a load range C about 8lbs heavier per tire.

Are you looking to go wider or just get more aggressive looking tread? If tread is your concern go with a M/T tire. It will outperform A/Ts off road and will look very aggressive.

Here is a picture of the Falken Wildpeak M/Ts I just put on. Pretty aggressive

Any of the tires mentioned should suit your purposes just fine. As for KO2's vs. Duratracs, you can't go wrong with either IMO. Go with what you think looks better. For what it's worth, the KO2's have been across Africa...they can't suck.

I keep hearing more and more about these tires...they look a Grabber X3. Any offroad experience with these?

I got them about two weeks ago and had the opportunity to run some trails last weekend. I was coming from A/T and the difference is substantial. Preformed really well when it came to traction in both dry and muddy conditions. Besides a balancing issue I had experienced I like them so far.

ko2s are Baja 1000 tested I mean shit it doesn't get any more hardcore than that for durability purposes.

 Except people who have had issues such as big mpg hits, rough ride, hydro-planning, failures, balancing issues, road noise, ect. They most certainly can suck, but any tire can most certainly suck; these are just a more expensive suck when they do...

ko2s are pretty cheap compared to some other options of the same class. they are sure a hell of a lot cheaper than my coopers but then again my coopers blow k02s out the water in everyway. still the ko2 is a great tire for the price imo.

I tell ya, almost any tire has raving reviews and poor reviews. A lot of it has to do with the user too.

No money, all went to truck...
I wish BFG would make the TAKOS2 in load range C for 265/70R16.
