For outright "all electric" you are right. We won't see full scale gasoline replacement for quite a while. But, when coupled with a more efficient energy source such as hydrogen or compressed NG... replacement of our current idea of a gasoline vehicle will come much sooner than an all out battery replacement.

not sure if anyone is an avid F1 fan here, but for those who do not follow, electric motors have vasty changed the sport, and lap time records are being shattered... these cars aint getting slower that is for sure.

Ya know, the more I think about it you are on to something. The only reason we don't already have long range electric road cars right now is because of weight. Primarily government mandated weight in the form of safety features for public road use and consumer mandated weight in the form of luxuries and convenience. For a trailered trail rig the government requirements don't apply. And offroaders are prone to sacrificing luxuries and convenience for hardcore performance. What we are left with is weight due to things like large heavy tires, heavy suspensions, armor, winches, etc. Maybe we are already there today for trailered rigs and it's just a matter of someone building them. And maybe we still need to wait for the next generation batteries unless we want to pay a fortune for titanium armored and suspended composite body trail rigs.
