    I was watching for a little bit, a guy setting his Tepui up a couple years at the Gold Lake OHV CG here in N Kalifornia. Said it took him an hour. Thinking he had not used it much or first time. Expensive, that's why I shake my head at what young bucks are spending. Better paying job than I ever had. Each there own right? Hyoh.

    Wow, didn't take me that long to unbox and install it on my truck. I was skeptical about the RTT. At 58 I have camped under the stars to decked out 5th wheels. The RTT is quick and as comfortable as a tent gets.

    My first time setting up my RTT took 15-20 minutes, in the dark, at midnight, after driving 5 hours in some scary forested winding roads. So unless that guy was reading the instructions and had never seen one deployed before, 1 hour seems excessive. I will say that setting up the annex was not included and that part is indeed a pain in the ass. Or it was the first time I did it.

    What I saw, had extensions or at least shades that propped open. I also believe he took his time, so maybe just enjoying his setup.
    I see RTT is short for roof top tent. Have not followed these discussions, still a ground dweller.

    That could be it. If he didn't have a step ladder or box to climb on, some of those spring rods are hard to reach. The really hard ones I just do from inside the tent now. There are definitely some cons to having a RTT. Primarily lack of mobility of the truck it sits on. That's why I do both.

    If I have to hoof it on foot, I have my backpacking gear. I went ultralight so it's pretty confined. If I can camp in the truck, nothing beats an 8 foot long mattress with a pillow, full kitchen and heat. :D

    If budget is limited, I would recommend against RTT. There's more flexibility in ground camping at the cost of certain comforts and ease of setup. The upside is you can get to more remote locations on foot because a lot of people aren't willing to put in the miles on foot.

    @Spunky

    It looks like you are using Yakima pads, right? So, the bars are made by Rhino? Can you be a little more specific on the setup?
