I agree with Jon. I'd go to the 650 spring and dial in the ride with compression valve tuning. That will make the up travel hits a little easier with all that weight extra weight and won't be overpowered by the heavier spring. You can't really "tune" a spring.... if you know what I mean.

    Good luck.

I understand how the shock can control the weight with compression and rebound, but not actually support the weight.

The Springs control the ride height and handle the weight. Remember springs are progressive rate. Meaning its 700# of pressure on the first coil and doubles then after

Heres what'll really criss cross your eyes with wtf..

If springs are progressive and icon valving is digressive, how the fuck? Lol

That makes sense. Well it's actually how I'm running mine right now with a 650 on drivers and 600 on passenger, same preload on both sides. The overall balance of the truck is better. My thought is that you have the gas tank, the steering column, the battery, the front diff, and my 200+lb ass on the drivers side vs. the exhaust and abs on the passenger side. I have off the shelf valving though.

Any help guys? I haven't gotten a response in my thread. I have read some in this 1 but haven't found what I am looking for.

3rd gen 6" Pro Comp lift w/spacers vs leaf springs (MALL CRAWLER)

Discussion in 'Suspension' started by smikels, Yesterday at 11:49 AM.

    1. Hello,

I have never off-roaded with my truck. Well I do use my truck, but not for off roading. Will I ever? Maybe in the future. My question is for the rear suspension. I currently has spacers with my leaf springs to get the 6" height. I am looking for a smoother ride. For the front I have Icon coilovers with 700# springs that I put on to remove the spacers.

How do i make my truck ride smoother? I know ICON is not the smoothest, but I heard was good for on road riding which is why I went that way. It does seem to ride better with them then the stock hitachi and 6" bracket that was on it.

Do i need to replace the leaf springs with 6" leaf springs and remove the spacers? I am guessing that is what is making the ride harsh still. If so what brand is recommended? Also what about the rear shocks? I know I can get ICONS for that pretty cheap I was told when I ordered the coilovers in the front. I am not sure what is on their now as far as that. What will make the most difference the leaf springs or the shocks in the rear?

I see others have done drop bracket 6" lifts and tried to read more about them. But they don't always post everything that they do. Also since I am a noob when it comes to lifting I wanted to get some advice. Ok let the flaming begin.

I'm having Alcan do my rears, 6" leaf pack set for the weight of my rtt, bedrack, bumper, and gear. Then im running extended rcd bilstein 5100s in the front to get rid of the top hat spacer on my fabtech. I'm sure the harsh feel is do the the blocks.

Alcan and deaver are your best bet for custom leaf packs

Are you running any weight up front? Bumper/winch sliders etc? 700 might not help with smoothing anything out. I would go to 650lb springs and then do the leaf pack. Should make a
    Big difference

You know I wondered this same thing.... when I was on the fence between the kings and icons.
Pretty dead settled on the kings though.

Question though I'm not the brightest bulb in the lamp when it comes to gears and springs so how easy and what exactly is done to adjust or "dialing in" the compression valving?

Its really trial and error on the butt dyno for some. But just talking to a King rep will start it down that road. Typically you discuss driving habits, what kinda trails etc. You can really dial them in for your needs.

Are you sure you wanted to make this statement? You are saying that somehow a metal spacer increased your spring rate creating a harsher ride.
Perhapsyyour ride went to shit when you installed the lift and then mounted up wheels and tires that probably weigh double what your factory set did. A huge change in unsprung weight would probably be the culprit here, don't you think?

Should've changed to "im sure big rear blocks aren't helping the harsh feel of his truck" not saying they are the only thing at play here.

My truck was bought and came with my fabtech 6" lift. there is plenty of advice/experience here that shows once you get rid of a huge top hat spacer, and giant rear blocks with a custom leaf pack the ride does improve a good deal. Im not here to argue your point and the weight does make a difference but I'm just suggesting ways for @smikels to improve his existing setup.

I do have steel bumpers added. I just wanted to know if the leaf springs were the best way to go and rear shocks as well I guess. I have read in here some saying their Fox system was riding very smooth. Just seeing how to make improvements for what I do with the truck and that is drive it on road. If it not possible then hey I prefer the looks to a rougher ride. Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it.

    Quick dumb question...

After 10 years one of my rear Fabtech Shocks blew out.

What Bilsteins will work with my 6" Fabtech lift? I thought the 5100's would?

And yes I still have the blocks in the back of this bitch... never got a spring pack.

    Thanks for the help.

I had the b110's on the back of my old truck with 4" lift in the rear. They are advertised for 3-4" of lift. Also ran the shortly with 7" lift. I liked them. Check them out at @HeadStrong Off-Road

You most likely have a 3 or 4" block in the back and the RCD/Bilstein extended length 5100's were designed for that size of block lift. Here is a link on our site so you can check them out:

You can run the rcd extended bilstein shocks f4-be5-e122-to up front used on the rcd kit. The shocks are for 5" of lift so if running with your stock coils you can just run a 1/2 top spacer to give you the full 6" or add ome 883 springs to the bilsteins.
