Tailgate jammed

i have the pop n lock.

Tailgate handle goes up, but tailgate won't come down.
How can I Get the tailgate down??

 

It sounds like your Pop & Lock is broken. This is a common issue with the cheap plastic. You need to remove the inside cover for the tailgate and manually operate the linkage to release the tailgate.

 

I have an amp research bed extender in bed also.
So, I can't reach the screws for it or the tailgate skin/cover.

 

At least no one can steal your tailgate! Silver lining!

 

Looks like you'll need to pry up the plastic piece on the top of the tailgate ( protective cover cap) to get to the latch. Probably can't be done without breaking that piece though. Good news is if you do break it, it only cost about $40 to replace it.

 

Remembering reading about a few members that had same issue. One did a writeup , maybe you can find it somewhere in the forum

 

Can you Jimmy the latches open on both sides. Had to do it on my first gen once.

 

I'll try and jimmy the side latches.

I have a mobtown tailgate cover.

Wondering if I could take rear bumper off and remove tailgate somehow that way?
