recently a member suggested I take a gander at any cables that could be rattling against the cab or otherwise as I continue to (perhaps obsessively) reduce the vibes in my truck. Well, I do indeed see a potential source. For a test I just used some duct tape and drove a 2 mi route I use when testing mods/changes and while I couldn't tell much in the way of steering vibes, i did notice a measurable decrease in the floor / gas pedal. Seems this thing, being surrounded by metal? around the TC could EASILY cause some vibrations when combined with the already "normal" harmonics around 2,000. Did 3 tests to make sure it wasn't just coincidence (one with it taped, took the tape off, then another with). Took my tape off b/c it gets hot there and needs something more bulletproof to hold it up there snug against the cab.

So - What's the best way to secure this thing so its not in the PERFECT position to rattle against a vibrating TC?

No concern over the plastic of a zip tie (or rubber in the hose) melting since it's against hot metal? Perhaps I'm over-paranoid, but seems to me that section of the cable is encased in metal due to the heat?

Why not get a piece of radiator hose then and a metal clamp?

hmm thought it was rattling against the body of the truck. yea radiator hose or exhaust hose would do the same and withstand the heat. could also strip some copper wire and just use that as a twist tie. just get creative! a muffler shop or mechanics shop may have random cut pieces of that exhaust hose or radiator hose laying around in the garbage that they wouldn't mind you taking.

So, I didn't want to declare too much victory without a couple days driving... but this was a very good and easy mod / fix. I'll post pics at some point, but what I did with this cable that was most CERTAINLY rattling.

I simply used some silicone adhesive with a heat resistance up to 600F and doused the metal part of the hose then used some masking tape to hold it to the cab. Let it cure overnight and pulled the tape off 24 hours later. left just enough silicone on there (after the tape pulled off the excess) to wrap around that metal casing and adhere it to the cab.

Could not tell it made any difference in the floorboard or steering.

BUT, the 2,000rpm gas pedal buzz is almost non-existent now. I can drive on the interstate without that annoying vibe the entire time now. Check it out if you have the pedal vibe. Not sure if mine just wasn't secured by mistake from the factory and I know there is a more sophisticated way to mount it but silicone worked fine and is low risk in terms of heat or any damage to said cable...

This was such a big deal for me... I'm getting virtually no gas pedal vibes after this. If anybody else sees this and has the vibes in the pedal, look to see if you have this cable loose against your TC...! After driving a solid 400 mi over the weekend I can report with confidence this makes a yuuuge difference.

Also makes me wonder what could similarly be rattling elsewhere making the steering vibes but will leave that where it is for now!

    Just fixed mine.
I didn't have any vibes; curios to see if I do notice any difference.

I just used a license plate retainer/screw and 1/2" cable clamp.

I like the way you've done this - may mimic it when I have the time. The silicone I put on there is holding well for now though. Just such an odd amount of gymnastics one has to do to understand what impacts this trucks vibes. Didn't make any difference in the steering vibes, and I can even still feel the slight vibes in the gas pedal when it's cycling through gears, but that constant 2,000 RPM highway vibe is pretty much nonexistent with this thing secured.
