I sometimes add all 6 quarts into my 3.4 V6, and it reads right to the full mark. I've tried just the 5.5 quarts and it always ends up under the full mark. So that's when I'll add that extra .5 of a quart and it stays at the full mark till the next oil change. I've read of others with the same engine doing it too. Not sure what to think. I do have 257,000 miles on it. But the oil level stays the same the whole time. From one oil change to the next.

We used to run half quart over full on our turbo dsms. It netted a bit more oil pressure and helped keep oil in the head at high rpms. Never had an issue. Worst case it leaks and Burns some oil.

It's rediculous what that truck could pull if sold.

    No kidding.....and it's green.....

Wonder if OP is interested in a 2013 Spruce....:spy:.....

j/k. His truck probably has the lowest miles of any first gen I've seen on this board. Mint example for sure.

    Hello all,
It seems that Styx and Joey are correct. I was concerned about the oil over-fill, but after I watched the young "Toyota Certified" mechanics drain the overfill, I could see they were quite sloppy. They put it up on a lift and opened the drain. The oil gushed out all over the place, and onto the skid plates below the drain hole. They then put the plug back in, filled it to the fill mark, cleaned the area of the oil drain and that was it. They didn't touch the skid pans, so that is where the oil pooled and came with me when I left the last time and leaked on my driveway. I won't be letting them service my Tacoma again without me there, after 14-years of trusting them to do it right.

I complained earlier about the rust on the leaf spring perches, and after some back and forth, they agreed to replace the perches for $200.00, down from over $600.00 normally charged. I was upset that they didn't hit them when they undercoated the frame, and/or didn't tell me that these were getting bad. They know me and my vehicle. It's in pretty much mint shape. I will be getting under it myself, now, and do some preventive rust proofing to the extent that I can.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THIS ??? :
As for the sensor, here is the report: "SCANNED ECU SYSTEM; P0031 OXYGEN (A/F) SENSOR HEATER CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. RECOMMEND REPLACING THIS SENSOR THEN RECHECKING SYSTEM OPERATION-MAY NEED ADDITIONAL PARTS/REPAIRS". Toyota tells me that it's the "emissions portion only" of this sensor (or set of sensors), what ever one that monitors the exhaust. They want over $600.00 to fix it! This seems very steep to me, and I'm thinking of doing it myself. I've seen OEM sensors for sale on Ebay, etc. for not much money. Are they hard to install? I apparently only need the one which is required for exhaust emissions. Can anyone provide me with any specific information I would need in order to purchase the correct OEM sensor piece, and advice on replacing it myself? If I don't have to do gymnastics, I'm thinking I could probably do it as long as it's not too buried in the engine somewhere. Any suggestions, please???
    Thank you.
    Mark

PS: Thanks Jay and mwc for your sagely musings...LOL. (sagely is a word, but not an adjective, so I guess I'll make one up as "sageistic musings") You wanna see more photos? I can show you some of my new spring perches...LOL

The dealership's pricing is, of course, ridiculous. The sensor you need is a Denso 234-9001 if you're an automatic transmission, or 9003 if manual. You can get it on Amazon for less than $100. It is located just upstream of your forward catalytic converter (or only cat if you're not a California model), and has a plug on the side of the transmission. I've heard the plug for the manual tranny is a pain to get to, I have no experience with that though. There are two studs with nuts holding the sensor on, if the underside of your truck looks as good as the outside, you'll have no problem loosening those and swapping the sensor. I would recommend hosing them down with a penetrant of your choice first just to be sure. The sensors don't usually come with a new gasket, you can probably reuse the old one if it's in good shape, buy a new one from somewhere, or use Permatex high temp gasket maker.

Thanks, drr. It's an auto transmission, it would be the Denso 234-9001. Doesn't sound too complex, but I'm pretty limited in auto DIY experience. I don't know a "cat" from "brake shoes and socks", especially if there's two of them...LOL. Actually, I'm not that much of a klutz. Just need some guidance. I have basic tools but not much else. I guess I could go online somewhere and get some visual instruction? Maybe a You Tube video? Do you know of any place where this might be better mapped out for me too look for instruction? Otherwise, I guess I could start surfing the net with the appreciated info that you have provided.
Question: How does the transmission relate to exhaust emissions? or did you mean that the cat is above the tranny? I don't doubt you, but please educate me...
    Thank you very much!

I got my truck serviced at 60,000 miles a couple weeks ago here at the Greenville dealership. Once I picked it up the lady showed me the ticket. She then proceeded to tell me they put 8 quarts of oil in my truck because my truck is rare.
