I see others asking the same question - why f&*k with it? 98% with a 3rd gen off-road owners haven't even begun to test the limits. Why not leave it alone, discover what was intended, evaluate that against what you think you might do, and not buy all of these mindless poser parts? (Sorry, that was harsh, but you know, maybe deserved). If and when you find it can't do what you wanted to do, then reevaluate and modify. Otherwise leave it alone until your skills exceed the truck's. Sorry if there is a grammatical error in there somewhere. :)

There probably wouldn't be a TW (or any other car forums)if it wasn't for personal customization and modding. Also been seeing these threads a lot. Why do some of you care so much about things people do to their own trucks with their own money??????o_O

I'd like to think I don't. I could be confused.

I have no problem with what someone might want to do because that's the way they see it. And in that location, at that time, I have no doubt whatsoever they are right whether I can see it or not. What they see is what they should do. I guess what I lament is the form over substance aspect of it all. Don't deny for a moment that I would have done the same thing under the same circumstances. But fact is they are not the same circumstances. And doing that is, as you like to say, for the mall. That's the part I can't quite get a handle on. Can you help?

Agree OP. I see those jokers around town with their shiny all jacked up F150s/Sierras with mud tires and roll cages LEDs and off-road gears spilling out all over just make me ROFL. Be honest. Do you have to off-road on betweeen the high tension wire posts to get to Kmart or you just spend every dollar on your struggle landscaping business on your damn truck just so you can impress some strangers. If you really off-road. Do thousand of dollars you sank into the truck a good return for the experiences?

I think your thinking way to much about it. Its a free country let people do what they want to do with their money. whether it be for the mall or legit off roading. I'm just glad there are so many individuals on here who are willing to help with parts, customization and or just plain tacoma advice.

I know people who watch a few episodes of a cooking show or woodworking show and go out and spend huge amounts of money on equipment they might use one or twice. If it makes them happy, so be it. If someone puts money into their truck because it makes them happy, good for them. Are they taking food off my plate? So really, what difference does it make to me? Nada.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of.......what is that word? Oh yeah, that's it. Let's all be happy with what we have and not worry so much about what other people are doing, as long as they aren't hurting anyone.

"Typical after-sale spend for pickups, depending on region and segment, is $3000-$8000." This is according to Toyota's own statistics: http://truckyeah.jalopnik.com/mid-size-trucks-dont-need-frames-1785674405
It's in-line with this poll of more than 2600 Tacomaworld members: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tacoma-mods-how-much-have-you-spent.1883/

4.5% leave their truck stock. 7% think chocolate milk comes from brown cows. Just sayin'...

I went with a friend of some 35 years or more to a somewhat remote location that was a Ford dealer. He's really into straight line acceleration. Paid a small fortune (independent of whether he could afford it, which he could, easily) to change the program (if not the chip) and put a different cold air intake on at the same time. For him, it's all about straight line acceleration. Wut? And that only applies in a truck forum. Don't sell parts to make us feel better. Continue into the future with what's gonna fix it if it f&*ks up, wut to do. That's your worth if not your motivation. Hardly the first to say it, but I would like that aspect of it to overcome and consume the stuff which is so much otherwise crap.
