It's really beginning to seem like the A/C in my truck has a leak somewhere and it just needs to be charged. My mechanic is going to be putting UV dye in the system so if it leaks again we will know.

Also noteworthy is that the vents on the driver's side are not as cold as they were literally a day ago.

I agree fully with the policy of forbidding the sale of potentially dangerous items to minors, but in my opinion this is just another excuse for a local retail establishment (in this case a Giant supermarket) to get my personal info.

I'm almost 30 years old, I know I look way over 18 years old, and I'm paying cash for these fireworks. NO, you cannot see my driver's license!

Today (Friday, June 23rd, 2017) Doylestown Borough and the surrounding area got hit by this huge monsoon of a storm in the late afternoon/early evening. I ended up driving to work from the grocery store in it! Here are some dashcam still shots...

Pulling out of the grocery store parking lot:

    20170623_3711_IMG.jpg 20170623_3712_IMG.jpg

The silver Tacoma that I saved from turning into a bathtub is just out of sight around the corner to the left:
    20170623_3713_IMG.jpg

I drove past a silver Tacoma just like mine parked on Oakland Avenue and the rear window was wide open in this monsoon! I circled back around, stopped my truck, and shut the other Tacoma's rear slider so the interior wouldn't get trashed:

    3rd gen Tundra photobomb:

Hard to see clearly, but East State Street was flooding:

Note that the blue Ford in front of me is creating a wake:

At about 11pm last night, probably 3 hours after I went home from work for the evening, my cousin's brother-in-law texted me and asked me if I wanted to join him and some friends for a few drinks at Puck (the bar where I work). I instantly took him up on his offer, called an Uber, and threw on some clothes. We only spent maybe the first forty minutes to an hour at Puck, during which time I had two beers (A Bud Light paid for by the in-law and a Dos Equis). We then walked the extraordinarily short distance to Chambers 19/The Other Side, another bar we both frequent, in the rain. I had a lager, an Angry Orchard, and at least two Miller Lites at Other Side. That was just the beer. I bought two shots of Tito's for me and the in-law (actually one shot of vodka; I'm friends with the bartender and my shot was on him). I had never tried Jäger before, so I bought two shots of Jäger for us as well. Then, we went to Stephanie's, where my extended family member bought me a lager can.

The in-law had been drinking Kraken before going out, so he was feelin' good long before I got to Puck. He also probably drank at 4 or 5 Bud Lights at Puck, another 3 or 4 various beers and the two shots at Other side, and another beer (possibly two) at Stephanie's.

He went home with the friends he came with, and I called an Uber, and went back to Puck where I hung out on the patio and ate pizza with a few of my coworkers until my Uber came.

I say again. At least a dozen various beers (Angry Orchard, Bud Light, Dos Equis, Miller Lite, and Yuengling; Probably 7 or 8), a shot of vodka, and a shot of Jäger. I got home went to bed at about 3am, and woke up at about 9:45 this morning without a hangover. I got in the Tacoma and drove to work at Puck at about 11am, and worked until like 2pm. About 20 minutes ago, I got a call from a friend of of mine who bartends at Puck, and it would appear that I'm needed to run some errands. So, as soon as I post this, it'll be back out to the Tacoma (which presently seems to have a slow but steady A/C leak) and off to Puck once again! Don't know how late I'll be working tonight.

Things on my Tacoma that need to be fixed:

    1. Air-conditioner not blowing as cold as it should on driver's side and blowing warm on passenger side (Not 100% sure what's wrong; Hoping it only needs a charge; Going to mechanic tomorrow for extensive diagnostics)
    2. Steering column casing (Alignment screwed up by body shop employee when intermittent wiper switch was installed; Parts ordered from local dealer; Should be in by Wednesday; Probably will install myself)
    3. Driver's side mirror (A woman opened her passenger door into my truck while I was driving down an alley and guillotined my mirror off; Bought a cheap aftermarket mirror off some website and it's obviously different than factory mirror; Also shakes like crazy; New mirror ordered from dealer; Neighbor will help me install next weekend)
    4. Spare tire (Factory 15-incher won't fit my truck anymore because my 16-inch Platinum Apex wheels require spacers; A spare wheel from a 2004 Ranger will fit; Probably gonna end up buying a new OEM one)
    5. Tear in upholstery on left side of bench seat (Probably never gonna fix; Just gonna get a seat cover)

So, a while ago the little plastic tab on my rear slider broke. Rather, I should say, the adhesive the holds this worthless little piece of plastic in place isn't holding it in place anymore. This happened sometime in 2015 or 2016 when I slammed the rear slider and caused the plastic bar thing to come off. I went to the dealership thinking I could just buy a new one of these parts. Imagine my shock when the dealership told me that the whole rear window would have to be replaced at a cost of almost $900!

As of right now, the little plastic lock tab thing stays in place on its own when the rear window is shut, and when the lock on the window is in place it can't be opened from the outside. The seal is still good and no rain, moisture, or debris gets into the truck. In addition to the fact a new rear window is almost a thousand bucks, there are a few bumper stickers on my back window that have great sentimental value to me. The bumpers stickers in question are a "93.3 WMMR" sticker given to me by Pierre Robert (my favorite DJ) when I met him at a car show a few years back, the TacomaWorld.com bumper sticker sent to me by tcBOB, and the TOYWERX sticker given to me by HomerTaco when he installed my new grill.

Should I just leave it be? If I do decide to replace it, should I just get a standard rear window? I rarely use the slider anyway.

I took some pictures of thermometer readings from the A/C vents in my truck...

These were taken with the "recirc" ON:

Inner left vent (In the 50s; Blowing cold but not ICE COLD; Last summer it was in the 40s)…

    IMG_8340.jpg

Inner right vent (Blowing 65°F WITH THE RECIRC ON!)…

    IMG_8341.jpg

Far right vent (Blowing 70°F with the recirc on; Outside temp was 84°F; Both left vents were in the mid-50s when this pic was taken)…

    IMG_8342.jpg

Far left vent (The coldest vent; Blowing below 50°F while the vent at the other side of the truck was blowing 20°F warmer!)…

    IMG_8345.jpgIMG_8346.jpg

    With the "recirc" OFF:

Inner left vent WITHOUT "recirc" on...

    IMG_8347.jpg

    Far left vent...

    IMG_8348.jpg

    Inner left vent again...

    IMG_8350.jpg

    Temp going up...

    IMG_8351.jpg

    Inner right vent...

    IMG_8352.jpg IMG_8352.jpg IMG_8353.jpg

    Inner left vent again...

    IMG_8354.jpg

Far right vent (90°F; Again, recirc is off and vent on left side is putting out just over 60°F; Obviously something wrong here)…

    IMG_8358.jpg

And my truck seems to be producing a lot of condensation as well...

Low on refrigerant and a slow leak somewhere. This part 3 in a series of posts. I've been told everything from a problem with the expansion valve or filter/drier, all the way up to a failing compressor. I'm bringing it to my mechanic tomorrow morning.

Well your mechanic should be able to test your system (i.e. The system should have a certain charge to it now and they should be able to tell you that ) they should be able to fill it and put a dye into the system and see if it's leaking

Yup! Dave is going to put the UV dye in it so if this happens again he should be able to find the leak.

I think mine was undercharged from the factory. It never has been satisfactorily cold to me. Doesn't seem to have gotten any worse either though.

My mechanic, Dave, is quite good at maximizing the performance of air-conditioners in vehicles. I don't know how familiar you are with Chevrolet Astro and GMC Safari vans, but one noteworthy problem with these vans is that A/C underperforms. Dave was able to get the A/C in a customer's 1994 Astro van with front and rear A/C (1994 was the first year for R134a refrigerant in these vans) blowing ice cold. The trick he says is to "balance" the refrigerant.
