RTT are very sturdy and quiet during high winds. Fabric is tough and repels water well. Simple & quick to setup. Plus sometimes you find a campsite that won't have room for a tent on the ground due to high water or heavy brush. Plus it looks awesome. Lol

    Bought the set on Amazon
Rhino-Rack Heavy Duty Cap/Topper Track Mount Roof Rack System, Black

Screwed them to the plastic pads with stainless steel screws. They work loose so they need to be checked every few months but the tent is rock solid.

I guess we are solidly divided into two camps on this question. We spend at minimum 60 days out in the wilds a year and my 40+ year old spine couldn't take much more abuse sleeping on the ground. For us, it's about quick setup/takedown, the ability to pull off any dirt road in the dark and get to sleep fast, and being able to store the bedding in the tent frees up a lot of space in the cab.

Don't get me wrong, these things are expensive, but the next best option is a bed cap and platform system. That's a sh*tload of base weight to add to the suspension when offroad. I think I'm at just 250lbs. with the RTT and rack. Also, I've heard that fiberglass caps will develop stress cracks over time if you're doing any serious wheeling. I'm not okay with that risk at what would be $2000+ invested.

Or, for those concerned about tying up the truck with the tent, just mount on one of these...

That will be coming home with me in a few months...

Finally got the truck out for its first camping trip to Casini Ranch. Somehow fit more crap in the Tacoma than I did in the Ram. IMAG4275.jpg IMAG4245.jpg IMAG4234.jpg IMAG4299.jpg

Looks like a good sized crowd enjoying yourselves. What kind of firewood is that? Can't say I've seen anything like it.

One of the guys in the group works at a custom cabinet and door company and always brings out scrap. I think he said it was pine.

Had a nice dispersed camp spot with an ocean view Friday night. Not a soul around. When I was scouting the area a few months ago, the weather was stormy... didn't even know there was an ocean view until now.

Took my 5 year old camping this weekend. First attempt at dispersed camping in Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. The spot I was aiming for was still snowed in - no way I was going to make it, so had to reverse back and settle for this spot, which I had marked as backup while driving up. Got there in time to capture the sunset. Next morning took in the views and captured a mosquito.

Nothing like free firewood  I got lucky not too long ago. Someone near my house cut down a bunch of oak trees and cut them into sections. I got as much as I could. Cut it into smaller sections, let it dry some, then spit it.

Helps them out with not having to get rid of it and helps you out having a good time camping.
