Had a question on my inner cv boots. Raised to about 2 1/2" and the outters look ok but just noticed two of the fins on the inners are rubbing and starting to see wear partern. Looking for an educated guess on "about" how long ill be ok like this. Rather not lower right now. I think i saw a truck with the ORS high angle "red boots" the other day but doesn't seem like many people around here are running/ backing them. Only 50k on axles. Thanks for any input

I haven't done it personally, but no people who just clip off the wire clamp, slide the boot out a little bit and put a hose clamp on. It just stretches out the boot a little to keep the fins from rubbing on themselves.

I was actually just reading up on that. Seems like the boot would want to slide back onto that original groove but it would be worth a shot. Just make sure that hose clamp is tight i guess. Anyone have success with any brand high angle boot?
    Thanks @EatSleepTacos

I just did the hose clamp way. I used grey rtv and they haven't moved at all and the clamps aren't even that tight

Going to try this sometime this week. @anthony250f basically you just put a bead of rtv where axle and boot meet right? Seems like it would be tough to get it up under the boot. Also how did you cut clamp without messing up the boot

I put it right in front of the boot then slid the boot over it. If you just use a plyers the clamp snaps aprt very easily

Hmm. Wonder how a bead of RTV between the fins would work.....

My inner took a poop about a week ago.

It's fixed. What I meant was a thin layer on the inner side of the fins so RTV is rubbing RTV

I read on some thread where somebody, I believe, sprayed silicone on the fins to make them very slippery and they would "slide" across each other as they rotated rather than actually rub. Anyone try this? Or use some type of grease between the fins? I know a thin layer (brushed on?) would have to be used or it would get slung off.

If those boots are weathered and hard they will crack soon. After my lift 3” they lasted a month before splitting. They were original axles.

How temporary? How often did you apply?

Ended up doing the boot slide mod. Was easy and dont have to worry em for awhile. No rtv and boots haven't moved. If you've already done this and still rubbing bad you're probably too high or could try high angle boots maybe. Dont waste your time with this silicone thought

Are you talking about the silicone rtv or silicone spray?

I just cant see trying to make fins slippery enough to not cause wear lasting for any significant time. I only didn't use the rtv, which i had on me and read about here, because boots were so tight around axles it was hard enough just to slide them down. Couldn't really see getting it in there

Did you simply cut the band, slide the boot down about 1/2" and re-tighten with a hose clamp? Or did you do the "Official" mod?

I did the unofficial mod, and it seems to be holding up fine. Unfortunately my boots are old and cracking anyways, so I'm sure I'll have to replace them within a year.
