So, I'm just trying to be sure > I am looking at a 24' travel trailer(camper) that has a dry weight of 5200lbs and a tongue weight of ~700lbs..... If I bought it I would add the brake switch and use a dual cam sway bar. I only intend to take it 1-2 hours away for the remainder of this year to see if I need to upsize vehicles (which I do not want to do bc I love my Tacoma)

BUT it still seems like this trailer is just too much for my truck.

    Agreed??

Lots of towing threads here in TW. Check them out with a search. Here is one https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ad-if-you-consider-buying-an-rv.328591/page-3 There are more. I too am looking at getting an RV and have done lots of research on dry weights, tongue weights, gross trailer weights, etc. My first advice would be to look at your owner's manual and go to the section on trailering or towing or whatever they have it titled. You will find the limits on cargo for your truck, limits on towing and also see a GCWR (total truck and trailer will all cargos) GVWR for the trailer includes your liquids and cargo. Dry weight means not too much. Cargo and people add up. Being that you have 4X4 your GVWR will be around 300 pounds less than a 2WD. 5200 pounds of dry weight would probably be a good number to look for in GVWR based on your horsepower and torque for your model. If you don't have the tow package go back to the drawing board. In my limited uneducated opinion a 24 ft camper with dry weight of 5200 pounds is too much for a 6 cylinder Taco for most applications depending on the terrain you plan to travel. I have a 3rd generation '16 Taco TRD Off Road 2WD and my GVWR rating is 6700 pounds and I'm shooting for a trailer that has about 5500 pounds or less give or take. That tongue weight of 700 pounds probably means your gross weight for that trailer is in the 7000 pound range. RULE OF THUMB: Tongue weight is about 9-11% of GVWR and you obtain that with a properly adjusted weight distribution hitch. Towing on the flat at low speeds may not be a big problem but any incline will surely cause issues. Personally (and only personally) I'd look for a smaller trailer. I love my Taco too and hate to part with it to have a bigger trailer. If you have a family a bigger trailer makes sense but then you may be looking for a Tundra or an F-150. Good luck.
