Thanks for that. Milling the slide wasn't really on the table anyway since I'm not interested enough in the idea to even commit $300-350 for a RMR sight at a bargain price. So far the only mods I've made are the TFO front post, a stainless guide rod and talon tape on the grip.

The XD came out of the box shooting tighter groups than the G17 I've had for six months and put at least a couple thousand rounds through at the range, I was just thinking a reflex might give me faster target acquisition for HD, but a laser would do that as well and cheaper; might just go with something like a tlr4 instead.

Now I'm starting to think I might want some kind of reflex on the glock instead since it's been shooting a little above the sights and my first try at shimming the front post had a problem in that the shims fell out after a few shots. Probaby still wouldn't mill the slide on that one either.

In all reality, you likely won't even see your sights or a laser in a HD situation. If you do see any of that, it'll likely be your front sight. Best advice when training for any self defense situation is to get your ergonomics as instinctual as possible. Run drill after drill until you're as fast and accurate as you think you need. Then run more drills.

The one single thing I've done to any of my handguns over the years that was a total transformation (in my opinion) was adding a Talon Grip to my XD-9. The stock texture is a little slick and only gets worse if you get the hand sweats. With this grip, the thing just sticks to your hand when you grab it. Huge confidence booster and makes it looks much better, too.

I don't currently have a laser on mine, but have in the past and can definitely see the potential benefits. It's still something you really have to train a lot with. I just liked the controls a lot more on the Inforce light, and they don't sell a laser.

I have a Glock 41 MOS with a Leupold DeltaPoint Pro 7.5 m.o.a. mounted and a Dan Wesson Specialist with a Streamlight TLR-2 G light/laser mounted and really like both of them.

At my age these old eyes and iron sights don't work together as well as they once did.

The talon grip is great stuff. I also did it pretty early with the G17 and had a sheet of it waiting before I got to pick up my XD45Tac. Ended up putting an ADE mini reflex on the glock and just added a truglo micro laser as a backup since that can't co-witness with the front post. I'm trying to finish upgrading the XD to Truglo TFO sights, but can't get the factory rear sight to budge. I'm already making 4" groups at 25m with less than 500 rounds run through the XD, so I figure iron sights will do for a while on that one.

Buddy of mine uses the RMR on his 10mm Glock and he shoots "Nuclear" loadings without losing zero.
You can get the XDM OSP it comes with various mounting plates. Or maybe rent or borrow a red dot equipped handgun to see if you like it.
