Nice man. I can't wait till Cal is old enough to bring along on big trips! He made it 2.5k miles to WI and back fine but I can't imagine much off-road til he can sit in a forward facing car seat and doesn't need mom's boob every couple hours lol. Gonna e fun to show the little man how awesome getting off pavement is!

We just had 70-90 mph winds here in laramie. Trees are knocked down all over town on power lines, one tree uprooted a gas line so they've got some streets blocked off

Is anyone looking for a RTT? Unfortunately it just doesn't work with our current situation, and there's no sense in it just sitting in storage.

    Howdy everyone!
I'm not sure if there is a another thread more suited for this post but my family and I are planning on heading up to your beautiful state next week (specifically to Grand Teton/Jackson/(poss)Yellowstone areas) and working on our itinerary. Our hope is to use the RTT for all BLM camping around those areas for several nights, so I wanted to ask you knowledgeable folks about recommendations for places to see/explore while there, great food in the area, but most importantly for any specific recommendations you may have for sites/areas to look into to setup camp each day/night. ANY assistance is much appreciated and thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
    Cheers,
    Marcelo

PS @Blackdawg , I remember you from the Tacoma World Photo challenge thread! (..as well as such youtube videos as the CVT tent setup guide..!) Are you still shooting photos? Is that thread still alive?? Sorry, have been MIA for some time. :spy:

    Hey man!

Yeah still doing lots of photos of my trips mostly now. That thread is still alive and well though! Murph took it over though.

As for your trip. There is no BLM land in yellowstone period or really near it. USFS is but not a lot of it is open camping and the camp grounds can fill up fast. They are pay sites just like in the Park. Same goes for the tetons though @Pltmnky and @IDtrucks live there and may be of more use there.

To get off the beaten path there is lots and lots and LOTS of country(as you will soon see) so it would help if we had an idea on what your plan kind of is and what your goals are.

Thanks Monte! That is very helpful already.

Our trip would only last Wed-Sun and so our current (loose) itinerary is to drive up from Ft Collins Wed night into WY.
We would try to make it ~5hrs Wed night and just setup the RTT somewhere off the road (no need for scenic) and crash for the night. We're debating whether to take the shortest (toll) route through Lander/Wind River Res. area or if we would have better luck with quick nighttime campsite going through Rock Springs/Farson?
Wake up early Thursday AM to make it to Jackson area early and find a site/spot to call home for the day. We've heard good things about the Jenny Lake campground in Tetons but imagine most sites in the area will be beautiful?
If we are lucky enough to score a great spot on Thursday, maybe we just stay there Friday night as well?
At some point, either Thurs, Fri or Saturday, we'd love to explore Yellowstone with our 6YO daughter in search of beautiful wildlife, waterfalls and scenery. Are the roads into/out of Yellowstone drastically less crowded on Thurs vs Fri/Sat? Do we just treat ourselves to a hotel stay and showers on Saturday night?
Sunday morning we have a delicious breakfast somewhere in Jackson before heading back to CO.

Part of our dilemma is trying to squeeze too much into our short trip while avoiding the possibility of missing out on Yellowstone all together while we're right there, so any assistance you all can provide is much obliged..

Thanks again for your help Monte (and any others) and we are looking forward to the adventure ahead!

ya i dont know fuck all about yellowstone, but within the Jackson area I know a few pretty damn good places you can post up the RTT for free. Let me know when youre coming through and what youre looking for and I can try to point you in the right direction!

Yeah, you'll leave and definitely want to come back haha pretty short trip.

Lots of camping by Lander. Even free camping in the City park in Lander if you want.

Jenny Lake is beautiful. But i'd be pretty surprised if you could find a spot there, but anything is possible. Sounds like Mark will have more insight to help you there.

You're going at the start of peak tourist season. All the roads are going to be busy. There is construction(pretty bad construction) from Norris to Mammoth i believe. Im sure you'll have a ball. If you want to see a lot of wild life, head up to Cooke City and that'll take you through Hayden Valley(tons of buffalo/elk usually), then to Canyon(massive water falls, the brink of the South Falls is epic cool, tons of good spots to see there but will be VERY busy there so heads up), then you can go to Tower(also good), and then out to Cooke City via Lamar Valley(always hundreds of buffalo there). Then could camp around Cooke City if you can get up by Lulu/Dasiy Pass. There are camp ground there too as well as some nice lil USFS service roads with camping by Lily Lake as well. Then you can go south to home via the Beartooth highway 212(epic drive/views) to Red Lodge for some good eats(Mas Taco is my recommendation) or take Chief Joseph highway 296(also epic drive and views) and then go south to Cody. Could even loop back into the park via the North Fork to the Easy Entrance over Silvan pass if you wanted. Be a lot of drive in one day, but do able. Camping is along the north fork but only Pay sites in camp grounds. Lots of private property out that way.
