They call Silver Falls the "crown jewel" of the Oregon State Parks, and now I know why. Hot water, electricity, clean showers, heated bathrooms......it's almost glamping. But I wasn't complaining :D

The weather couldn't make up its mind, though. Rain, clouds, rain, hail, clouds, then sunny on the last night.

Stopped off at the Thomas Condon Paleontology Center near John Day.

.....sorry kids, I've got some bad news for you.....

    20170624_153838.jpg

As we started looking for a place to crash for the night, we found a nice little campground tucked way away on a fire service road. So we decided to check out the other FSR roads in the area.

Out of the 3 of us, only one didn't have a stock rig.

    So, mud bog???

    IMG_20170625_184709_342.jpg

    Challenge: Accepted

Ya, it was actually a lot deeper than it looks. So, we cleaned off the windows, and headed back for dinner.

    IMG_20170625_184705_118.jpg

Set up camp. SOME of us need either a shell or an RTT. Til then, goin' old-school with the good ol', tried-and-true ground tent lol
    (thank you, again, @BenTheMan!!!)

It was perfect! And it was in perfect shape with all pieces and parts.

My wife ended up coming with us, so fitting a queen air mattress in there was interesting, but we got it in lol

Thanks again!!! It'll be getting a lot more use this summer, for sure!

I installed my Midland 75-822. I like the inconspicuous look, so I keep everything tucked away until I need it. The cubby below the ignition is perfect because it's close to the cig outlet, and my antenna was already wired there.

Then I just pull the cords out, plug it in, then slide the radio on the adapter.

Finally, the antenna mast lives under the rear seats, and the base lives behind the back seat. When I need them, I run the base out the rear window, screw in the mast, and place it on the roof by the 3rd brake light.

I mean, the interior of my truck just gets a little dusty, but I definitely don't let it get dirty.

    But yours is spotless.

    I can't even.

I've been thinking a lot about solo trips recently, and started considering different tent options. For the time being, I have a nice little pup tent that works, but I'd like something to keep me off the ground and much easier to pack and setup. The issue everyone mentioned about truck bed tents is that you have to completely unpack the bed in order to use the tent, and I don't want to have to load and unload the truck everytime I want to sleep.

That's when I ran into these:

Kamp-Rite Tent Cot Original Size Tent Cot (Green) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BH46MU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_xYpxzb1MW1ZK7

Then I started thinking, "That can't be too difficult to rig up on a set of bed bars to make a cheap RTT!"

Thanks to @DrFunker for posting the link in a recent thread. I'm going to have to try this now!
