So I know the AAL is the cheapest and quickest option, but anyone have any recommendations for a leaf pack with 1 - 1.5 inches of lift besides the J66?

2nd Gen carrying shell and roof top tent. Thinking maybe X pack and removing overload, etc.

    Thanks!

    Sub'd....
I too am looking for similar feedback...I have a camper shell and possibly towing a pop-up camper more regularly...not really looking to go the full 2.5"-3" from the Dakar heavy duty pack....just looking for more options

Why not just get a single AAL..?

    Or Ride Rites?

The way I understand the AAL is they only add ride height...no additional weight carrying capacity....I am eyeballing the the wheelers 8 leaf pack which claims 2" but has no description of it's additional weight capacity if any at all...also the wheelers 5 leaf pack says it can increase carrying capacity but by how much? And no additional ride height numbers as well....
The Dakar heavy duty claim an additional 600 lb rating which seems good for me but I don't think I would like to go up to the 2.5"-3" it increases in ride height.....
I will look into the Ride rites tho.....thank you

OME Dakar, slip out one or two leafs.

    Or go custom.

    Also look at Timbren SES.

That might be the case with the "progressive" 3-leaf aal, but the single aal definitely adds capacity. It sounds like I had very similar goals to you. I wanted a mild lift, but was more interested in improving ride characteristics and load capacity than looks. I went with an 883 coil in front, and a wheelers 2" aal in the back. Carries my heavy utility shell really well, has a little bit of rake. Ended up perfectly level when loaded with 3 weeks of gear on a recent road trip. Rides better than stock by a long shot. 10,000 miles so far and not a problem.

No pack increases payload. Just changes the manner that payload is carried.

A single AAL is stronger than a multi leaf AAL mini-pack.

With any AAL, the weakest link is the leaf pack it's assembled into.

If I were shopping full packs, I'd go with Dakars and modify as needed for the lift height desired. But before I did that, I'd get airbags.

--- not gonna doubt your input but the Dakar heavy duty leaf packs 600lb rating leads me to believe I can haul/carry heavier things with this pack?...confused a bit on this as Dakar markets it as such while the other single AAL make no mention of how the payload is carried....I'm just a newbie trying to figure it out

Payload is based on more factors than leaf springs, also the rear axle and frame, brakes, drivetrain.

Tacoma is rated to haul more than 600 lbs.

I ran Dakars on my Tacoma and loved them. I carried 500-1100 lbs regularly and never had an issue. Payload is payload, though, and Dakars can't be beat for the price and the power. It took a couple hundred pounds of weight to get any type of visible reaction from the Dakars.

Okay, so it doesn't actually increase the official "payload" of your truck. What it does do is beef up the stock leaf pack so that it isn't the obvious weak link when I'm trying to use my truck to haul things.

For whatever reason I didn't get an update about posts in this thread, but thank you all. I guess my intentions would be no lift, better weight carrying/handling with the springs so I'm not pogo sticking down the road. Tacoma leafs are notoriously flat, and mine aren't far from there either
