I have a 2011 Tacoma 4x4 TRD and it did something really strange yesterday. I had to run a quick errand in town. I came to a stop sign and stop and when I accelerated my truck didn't go as fast as it normally would. When I pressed the accelerator more it wouldn't go any faster. Then I noticed my air conditioner was not blowing out cool air. I turned around came home and when I pulled into my garage I noticed a loud ticking noise coming from underneath the hood. When I turned the A/C off the noise stopped. My question is does sound like the compressor is shot and why would that cause accelerating issues?

Any chance you seized up the a.c. Compressor and the lack of power was the belt slipping on the pulley?

That's what I'm afraid of... what would cause the compressor to all of a sudden freeze up?

I'm on a phone and have sausage fingers. Can you look at your engine to see if the a.c. Pump is turning? Check with both the a.c. On and off. If you notice a big engine lugging sound when you switch the a.c. On or off, then you can narrow the issue down.

The more info you can give us the better.

Also nitice if there is a burnt rubber smell.

Thank you for helping me with this. I'll check it and see. Correct me if I'm wrong but the compressor is on the lower driver side under the alternator? Also one more question if the clutch relay fuse blew would it cause the compressor to act this way?

Ok I just went out n checked it and it's spins just fine. When the a/c switch is off it is not turning and the pulley is spinning fine so there is no belt rub. When I turn the switch on the compressor spins and the pulley spins and no belt rub. But I do hear a ticking noise. Do you think the relay fuse could be the culprit?

Not really. I wish I could tell you more.

Is the air coming out the vents still cold?

I'm wondering if one of you idle pulleys is getting bad.

Ok, we can now assume there is a problem with the AC.

Does the little light that is in AC switch light up?

This and does the a/c clutch - round-like piece that's at the front of the compressor engage if the compressor is running?
