Anyone with recommended FRONT facing car seats for 3rd gen dbl cabs?

Hello everyone, there seems to be a lot of input on convertibles and rear facing seats, but I was wondering if anyone has a specific front facing car seat that fits their Double cab well. I have a convertible car seat in there that is a bit tight (positioned in middle). I imagine a more compact front facing car seat is what would fit the bill for our double cabs.

Anybody find anything they really like? if i find something good, i'll certainly post a pic and share. cheers.

thanks for the input perkj. do you find that it has a smaller footprint and takes up less space than some of the other front facing car seats out there? i usually setup my carseat in the middle via latch, and my 4 year old has less room for his feet compared to my other cars, so wanted to find something that is slimmer profile. he likes that he can put his feet up and nudge my right arm while sitting in the back though. me, not so much.

Always fit nicely in my 07 with plenty of room. I used to just flip the passenger seat flat and my son was happy he could see out the windshield. The 17 I have now doesn't have the fold down seat , don't know why they took that feature out. I loved it. Doesn't matter now my son rides in the front seat with a booster.

 

I would also just remove the passenger headrest and he could see still. As far as I am aware, the britax seats allow for the most in weight capacity and growth. We only wanted to buy once after making the first mistake of buying a all in one system. Car seat, stroller and the cradle switched back and forth. It worked for about 8 months before he out grew it. We researched like he'll looking for the best car seat and nothing could really compare to the britax. He still had room to grow in it, but he is 8 now and when I was 8 I rode in the front seat. So he does too now.

 

From a full back car seat perspective the Diono Radian r100 and r120 are the slimmest both in width and front to back. Given that your child is 4 years old you are on the cusp of being able to go with a backless booster since most kids reach 40 lbs around this age. My son just turned 5 (44 lbs) and we now have him transitioned to the Graco Affix Backless Boosters with latches and he now has a lot more foot space in the Tacoma and our other 3 vehicles. Given the higher price of the Diono and the fact that you only need it for less than a year it may not be worth the expense unless you can find a used one (these seats have a 10 year life). I'd go with the Grace Affix if you child is over 40 lbs. if he/she is close to 40 either hold off with what you have until he/she is 40 lbs or try finding a used r100 or r120 on CL or eBay. If you're in the Bay Area in NorCal, I have 3 of my r120 for sale...already sold one.

 

I use a recaro seat for my son. I don't know what model it is because my wife bought it. I didn't approve of the purchase because it was too expensive, but it's are really nice seat.

Build dates on them I believe are either 2014 or 2015. They all also have all of the accessories you get with a new one. PM me if interested.

 

My son (3) is sits in a Recaro Performance Sport harness/booster seat. Love the seat, but Recaro just recently pulled out of the country, so you technically can't get them anymore.

My daughter (5) sits in a Clek Oobr booster. We love the Oobr. It's really compact but has great side protection.

We're really happy with both choices.

Anyways... you'll need to decide based upon how much longer you're going to harness your child. If you're going to be switching to a booster in the next few months, tough it out. If not, then decide what's more important.

 

Diono Radian RXT. We call it his racing seat and he can't wait to get into it when we say we're going for a ride in the truck. Also worked well in my GTI, Golf R, and Mazda3.

 

Thought I'd follow-up on the car seat I ended going with. Didn't take much thought, as I have 2 of these already - the Britax Pioneer. Forward facing seat, small footprint, and very solid. The Frontier is essentially the same thing, but slightly fancier constraint system. Note, front seat is moved up quite a bit, but can easily account front passenger and child in rear.

 

I have a britax advocate in my dcsb. It is a substantial bulky seat it but has a very high safety rating, which was important to me for obvious reasons. When I was using it rear facing, if the front seats were slid back all the way or reclined beyond a typical seating position they would hit the car seat. Now that my little one is bigger, we were able to flip the seat forward facing and this is no longer an issue. The seat is in the middle and there is no real obstruction of my kids legs in a sitting position and you can slide the front seats all the way back and recline very far, I have not tested how far, like max recline, but the wife reclined enough to nap comfortably on a road trip without any interference from the seat or mini legs. The other plus is now my kid can see us while in the car and she is happier which greatly reduces my ear discomfort, and stress level while driving.
