Yep that was the down side and I'm not wealthy but we did just pay our house off and we're looking for a way to have some adventures.

Really after 30 years of body work and wleding my body is getting kinda torn up. I'm out now after my second shoulder surgery in a year. Sleeping on the ground with a really bad back isn't much of an option either. So, we found this. It has 12" of ground clearance on torsion suspension and is supposed to be designed to handle off road trails. Still very basic but really well built. Besides getting my dog up into an rtt would have been near impossible

Chack out an Apex camper then I think the smallest is around 11k. It's a pop up but hard sided and 1 person can set up easy. Has kitchen shower and bathroom available I believe

They look sweet! I have a kiddo on the way so I'm not sure how much longer I'll be sleeping on the ground when the wife tags along. Looking at options too.

We've been buying stuff for this like crazy for the last week. I thought we had everything but apparently not. When we pick it up Thursday I'll take some better pics and already have stuff ordered or sitting here to begin the mods. It comes with a thule roof rack so mounting a basket up there and obviously already ordered the awning. I'll have to figure out mounting for rotopax and traction boards later

I'd rather not think of all the $ spent :(
I got this Camco toilet on Amazon for $34 for the GF. She would prefer use the trees but at night, this means me having to wake up because she "hears something" She and my daughters scoffed when I pulled it out on the first trip. After a week, they told me they liked it and were happy to have it. I get to sleep a little more which is great. I haven't seen a downside to it yet. No leaks, no smell. I just empty it when we get to a dump site or into an outhouse. It is a little bulky but it makes things easier with girls!

Its pretty awesome! Its fairly easy to operate, works off of a couple of D cells, and is mostly self contained. I went to home depot and bought a few extra fittings to ensure I could feed it from my onboard water pump in a bed cubby or from a standard garden hose that some camp locations have. The only problem is that Texas is so damn hot that we havent had to use it so far this summer. The sun has done an excellent job of warming the water and air enough for us to not want hotter water showers. Great purchase for around 100 bucks.
