I replaced my chirping clutch release bearing (2008 4wd V6) at 60010 miles with the URD sleeve/bearing kit. 1279 miles later, the bearing is failing.

It squeals whenever engaged with the clutch cover...I can open the bell housing inspection plate, push the fork so that the bearing moves back off the clutch cover, and it stops squealing.

Depressing the clutch just makes it go to a higher pitch and get louder. With the old chirping bearing, I could load the clutch slightly and the sound would stop. This is constant.

    What did I do wrong?

Again this is not a factory toyota bearing, it is the URD sleeve and bearing kit made to address the chirping problem and resultant quill damage.

Clutch free play is fine. The bearing was touching the clutch cover fingers from the beginning, but there was no other option as that is where the slave kept it due to the slave's return spring. My factory bearing touched the clutch cover too, and it made it to 60000 miles.

What else should I try? Not excited about buying a new bearing and tearing everything down in less time than an oil change.

    Thanks

Have you talked to the people at URD that would be my first option!!

Bearings sometimes are bad out of the box.

Wrong bearing in the correct box .

Wrong kit for your application .

Since this is different then stock you really can`t compare the two bearings .

I did speak to them. Tech support said that I had the correct part but that the bearings they sourced during the time period I bought mine were problematic, so they switched sources. It is this kit bought from URD:

    http://urdusa.com/store/p1260519023...IT,-2005+-Tacoma-V6-6-Speed/product_info.html

I will say it reciprocated very smoothly and without wobble on the machined sleeve, unlike the stock bearing that would wobble a bit on the shaft.

They will not replace it since I installed it more than a year after I bought it. They did give me the part name so that I can buy the same $125 bearing again.

I've done some looking around on this forum since posting and it seems like there is a lot of debate on whether the bearing should ride the clutch cover or not, etc. Consensus seems to be that they should. Both of mine did.

Ok now you know you more then likely have a bad bearing are you going to buy a new one .

I ran into the same problem buying parts well before they were needed any window to exchange is long past .

If you can live with the noise it might very well work for quite some time.

    Best of luck
