Shut my 2016 Tacoma off when I got home Friday, 5 minutes later went to start it and it would not start...sounded like it wasn't getting any fuel. Ended up having it towed to the dealer the next morning, and after 2 1/2 days of looking for the cause they told me that the fuse box was shorting out and causing the EFI fuse to blow. All covered under warranty, but I have never heard of a fuse box developing an internal short or going bad. New one on me...in any event I'm going to be at least a week or more without my truck until they get the parts and put it all back together.

Yeah that sounds like an odd failure, hopefully they get you fixed up and running soon.

that is crazy...never heard of that. Glad they are fixing it but I would love to know more about the actual failure...how it was shorting, etc.

How many miles on your 2016? Thankfully it's within warranty.

Can't be. There's only one or two people with issues on this forum and OP isn't one of them...

It's been a common (well not unusual) problem on many vehicles. Tight spaces and bad fuse box locations with tight wire tolerances/bends, lead to shorting against chassis or mount. The cheaper plastic boxes and more environment friendly wire casings many manufacturers are using these days compounds the problem.

Just thought I'd throw my issue into this thread. I had an aftermarket keyless entry installed, so they tapped into the parking lights directly before the fuse box. Tail lights stopped working, and I was pulled over for it. Normally I'm fairly electrically savvy, so I trouble shot everything in line and I wasn't getting power from my fuse box. I figured there was some kind of short within the keyless entry system so I pulled it out and heat shrieked the spliced wires, still nothing. My fuse box shorted too, I ended up taking it to the dealer for a quote, so I could go back to the shop that installed the keyless entry and have them replace it. Toyota quoted me 800 with labor and parts, and the shop won't replace the fuse box. So basically I'm SOL, I have a temporary fix in place, and don't want to replace the fuse box myself since the truck is under warranty... anyways the moral of the story is that it sounds like the fuse boxes in these trucks are pretty weak and break easily.

it's what keeps your vehicle from being started, without the proper key, in theory anyway.
