    Hi All,
I am new and just posted in the NM areas as was suggested but I wanted to come in here as well for the gen II help. I will not repeat everything but I hope to own a Tacoma very soon.

I drove an 07 6 speed manual Tacoma this morning with 168K miles on it, double cab, $14K. Frame was not done, not sure if it should have been or not. The underside was very clean, but I did see some level of rust up on the front gussets. I am not very knowledgeable in the years and issues so I am seeking your rapid advice. I know that pretty much all of them are solid, but in terms of buying going forward should I look for a >2010, less than xx miles, etc...

Needs: Double cab, 6 speed. I could drive an auto-seems like it would be more fun with a stick.

Any advice would help, I am looking in real time right now. Anything around Charlottesville, VA let me know.

    Thanks,
    Jim

That does look pretty clean for a northern truck.

Welcome! Its definitely more fun with a standard if you like rowing the stick! My 6 speed has been great so far!

My advice to you if youre looking for a double cab 6spd is to be patient and shop around. This configuration is very hard to find, but its the best imo! I searched for about 8months before finding my 2013 dcsb 6spd one owner with 24k miles on it. Good luck!

The dealer has no idea about the truck so I am not sure on the clutch. It felt solid when I drove it, put it through the gears to 75-80, lugged it in 4-5 on the on ramps to see how the clutch was, did not see any slip on the tac. The truck was originally in Northern Virginia and then in North Carolina for the last 5-6 years. 07s ok years? Is the frame a real concern here as well? I am finding a slew for 14-17K right now locally, 2007-2011s.

I would create an acct on Toyota Owners.com (link below). If you login, and add the vin number on there, you can look at the service history at Toyota Dealerships for that truck and see if the clutch was replaced at a dealer. Could have still been done at an independent shop, but this might give you a better idea as to the Toyota service history.

I wouldn't worry about the miles if it's been regularly cared for and maintained. We have an 07 fj in the family with the 6 speed and 1gr-fe and it has 250k miles. Still running strong! Long story short, these trucks will run forever if the previous owner/you took/take care of them

Anyone concerned on that level of rust? I am not seeing much around here in terms of cost and manuals are pretty scarce. I figure I can wire brush the frame, clean it with acetone and hit it with crown.

from what i can see it looks pretty clean. i would recommend getting under the truck and checking the frame rail by the cats. That's a very popular place for rust holes that lead to frame replacement. the frame test is to whack it with a hammer... if you get a hole, run.

Thanks, it looks like the recall for the frames has passed anyhow. I might drive over and take it for another ride so I can tap around on it.
