2017 Formula 1 Season Paddock

I'm really not sure. It's not for rollover protection, and only provides limited frontal protection. I guess it would keep a tire out of the cockpit like when Alonso and Raikkonen got together a few years ago. I just watched to footage and that wasn't the incident I remember. I remember one where a car went over another car and the tire almost went into the driver on the bottom car.

The Halo is only for sure for 2018 , if development allows for a better looking alternative they will likely adopt it

In my opinion , if they can slim down the overall size of the Halo bars , particularly the intersection at the front , it will be the most unobtrusive option as far as sight lines for the driver in different weather conditions ( basically same as no protection ) and sight line to the driver for fans ( no side obstructions / no canopy reflection or distortion )

 

Predictions this weekend? I'm hoping for a good finish for Redbull maybe even two podiums . Kimi second or third.

Even the white Williams one in the pic in that article disappears into the bodywork pretty well

 

The F1 cockpit thong is being implemented for the same reason the fender/bumper/cowling/future track debris things did on the current Indycar chassis. It's a feel-good knee-jerk response by the FIA to the Jules Bianchi crash. You know what would have prevented him hitting his head on the back of a tractor? Not having a tractor on a hot track during a downpour. Tom Pryce was Decapitated by a fire extinguisher when he hit a track worker who was running aross the racing surface. No one cried for a Halo then. They just stopped allowing track workers from running across the track.
