Just installed a set of King rears and hit a speed hump table thing a lil faster than your suppose to and i think i felt a clunk when the rear unloaded. I have Dakar leaf packs which yielded about 3" of lift. Is there a solution like a spacer or something to move either my top or bottom mount points around?

I'd really hate to have to buy another set at full price and loose my ass trying to sell these new ones. I didn't see any length options when looking on Wheelers website. Any help would be great.

You may have hit your bump stops and felt the harsh bump..?
Not really sure what you felt....
Your shocks I'm sure are fine it's the bottoming them out is where
the problem probably lies. Hydro bumps time lol

it felt like the shocks need more droop, the clunk was when the rear unloaded, not when i landed. Maybe going to lift the truck, remove lower shock bolts and see if the axles drops more. If it does, what then?

When I bought my King rears from @Downsouth Motorsports Micah had shocks made for Dakar springs. Extended is 25.25" Collapsed is around 15". Take the shocks off and measure. I'm pretty sure you can modify them to the extended length.

I have the DMS extended Dakar Kings. They limit the droop of the Dakars by about 1". This is with stock shackles. I was disappointed when I found out that shocks spec'd for the springs limit them, makes no sense to me. I will be doing the shock relocation and longer shocks soon to get the full droop out of my springs.

I'm in talks with some vendors trying to figure it out. I only had to jack up the axle like 1/2" or so to get lower bolts in. Found the major clunk noise was my trailer hitch in the receiver is sloppy. removed that and haven't heard anything yet, i feel so stupid about that...dooooh

per OME they use a even shorter shock and use them to limit the droop so that you are not required to run a brake line.
the shocks we refer to as the Dakar spec, is an extra 1.3" of extended and collapsed length. this is offered as an option so that you do not have to have custom rear shocks built at an added cost of $200.00 and 6-10 week build time.

what shock do you have now? is it the standard OEM rear?

they measure about 24.5-25" extended. I removed my loose sloppy fitting trailer hitch from the receiver and havent heard the clunk yet. Pretty sure that was the noise i heard flying over that speed hump.

Old shocks measured from the ground up, not eyelet.

the standard king OEM shock is 15.83/24.29. when you bought them from whomever you got them from, did they do any modifications to make fit on the Dakar kit? if not they are too short and will definitely make a clack when over extending.

I don't know. Do you know the difference between the oem and dakar kings? Can I convert mine with different hardware or are they a totally different shock? Might remove 1 or 2 of the lower leafs and see how that settles the rear. Thank you for all the info!

it involves removing and swapping 2 internal parts and a different rod end.
they can be swapped easy if you can open the shock.

Would you mind sending me a PM with a parts cost est? Are you able to do that if I mail the shocks to you as a second option?

Is it safe to allow the shock to limit droop on the 2nd and 3rd gens?

I just got Kings all around from you guys at DSM. When I called to inquire, you thought the rear kings would be good for an additional 1" height in rear. When installing them (using a 1" block temporarily until I wring everything out, see what kind of minimum lift I got up front with the Kings / 700's) and figure out rear spring option / set up I want to go with), the rear was drooping about 1" more than the shock at full extension. Had to jack up the axle just a little bit to get it in.

I didn't look at the extended rear option as I only wanted 1" to 1.5" max in the rear.

Will the Kings handle this? I know the front coilovers use an "internal stop" for OEM set up (which can be removed for "extended travel" with new UCA's), but not sure if the rears are set up to handle this kind of internal abuse?

Will the truck mounts handle this? Had the problem years ago on the Gen1 with extended shackles, and broke off an upper rear shock mount after a few trips off road. Now the Gen1 upper mount design seems much more prone to damage and not as strong of a design versus the upper "bucket" on the Gen2's and Gen3's, but I'm still concerned I could pull off or break a mount if I get a quick downward axle droop. Or am I overthinking this?

I'm not concerned with losing that extra inch of down travel. I am concerned with breaking something.

you typically do not want any shock to be the limiting factor. I would suggest checking everything and running a limit strap if the shock is limiting the down travel.
the rear shock is the same as the front in that they both have a droop spacer that can be removed. the spacers are 1/4-3/8 tall.
if the truck is not being used for heavy offroad, then you probably wont have any issues.. but if you use it hard and jump it, then you will definitely want to run a strap.
