Is "Until Dawn" like a walking movie? I've heard good things about it.

In a way. It's a very fun game and has multiple endings that are possible. You control the character but it's not extremely complex controls. It's free this month with PlayStation plus if you have it

I also really enjoyed SOMA which is a thriller/suspense game with some great jump scenes. Just bought the amnesia collection so I'll play those soon

So does anything actually productive, skillful or socially redeeming come from gaming?

I mean I see race drivers using simulators, current fighter pilots learning to fly by joystick quicker, but those are exceptions, not the masses.

Mostly for entertainment. I usually game instead of watching tv. A lot of the games challenge you mentally, and they have a whole genre of games that use riddles and puzzles. It's a plus if you have friends who play too. I play call of duty with a friend back where I grew up and it's fun to catch up and chat while we play

I don't have friends :pout: . Guess that's why I only play single campaign games.

I still blow the dust off of my PS2 now and then for some GTA-Vice City action.

Or my N64 for some Perfect Dark.

I'm still using the equivalent of Dial-Up for my video games

I miss games before expansion packs came out. Buy the game and that was the game. No add-on's, no extra cash required to upgrade shit. Just pop in the cartridge and play, with your friends who are sitting next to you and not at their house with a headset on.

One of the best parts about the old systems with wired remotes was barley unplugging your buddies controller while he got up for whatever reason. Hitting pause and kicking his ASS while he gets so frustrated that his controller is working. Ahhhh the good ol' days.

I get bummed out because I used to have a dedicated group to play online competitive games with. Now most have kids or just got out of gaming so I play solo

I'm not going to bother reading the whole thread because I want to answer the question of fatigue. I'm younger, but my dad and I both go through similar fatigue. He solves it by rotating games very regularly, I just find other things to do. We both go through 3-6 month cycles of highs and lows when it comes to gaming.

They've done "studies" that show gamers have better hand/eye coordination that non-gamers. Who knows if that's actually true. Also, I truly think games enhance your critical thinking skills. RPG's are typically full of puzzles/riddles that require you to think about scenarios in different ways to get to the next step and/or just straight up solve a puzzle logically. Even run n' gun shooters make you strategize and multitask your brain (think paying attention to your immediate surroundings, the mini-map, ammo levels, where on the map your enemies may/may not be, etc. all at the same time). All this is going on subconsciously and people who are better at it are obviously ranked higher in the game.

I've been wanting to get Firewatch, basically because the description left me feeling so mysterious.

I've been a gamer since like 4 years old. Don't know what initially attracted me or why I liked it so much. But now as an adult, I like playing because it gives me an opportunity to do things I cannot in real life (like shoot zombies or steal cars and drive them faster than possible). I don't like sports games I guess because I don't like sports in real life, but I feel like If I wanted to go outside and throw a football to someone else that is something I can actually do.
Plus, a huge reason is storylines. Games with a good storyline in single player campaign completely beat a tv show with a great storyline.

It's a great one to play through. I loved the wilderness aspect of it and the voice acting is top notch

I think The Legend Of Zelda and Dragon Warrior as well as video game magazines taught me to be proficient with maps.

I try to explain this concept to my g/f all the time. A good game is better than a book/movie any day of the week.

I'm the same way with Clash Of Clans. Sometimes I don't play for days at a time, sometimes I'll play a couple of times a day and other times I'll play for hours.
