If the brake pedal sinks to the floor with pressure applied and there are no obvious external leaks then it points to seal(s) in the master cylinder. Fluid leaks past the seals and back into the reservoir.

Day three in the shop: The tech took the truck home and was able to replicate the issue, and therefore confirmed the issue exists (on one occasion the brake pedal went down half way before applying any braking). Since the tech was able to confirm the issue, but they still have no idea what the cause is, corporate suggested they replace the master cylinder as a start. This was done by end of day Friday and I got the truck back!

On Sunday I ran some errands out of town (drove a few hundred KMs) and had the issue happen twice in one day. Therefore, master cylinder is not the problem.. Going to call the dealer this morning to figure out the next steps.

Just got an update from the dealer. Corporate has asked them to take the truck back and disassemble some of the brake components and take pictures. I assume this means procedures such as taking the drums off for a detailed inspection and photo shoot. I am going camping this weekend and have the truck booked in for next Wednesday!

Update: Got my truck back on Friday from its second trip to service regarding the brakes. Since replacing the master cylinder on the first visit, the tech was able to replicate the issue yet again (on one occasion the brake pedal went down half way before applying any braking). They were unable to determine the issue and have gone back to Corporate to tell them the next steps. They said they will likely replace the ABS actuator as there aren't many other components that could be causing this. The dealer did mention there are a couple other trucks that are experiencing the same issue.

Man that's crazy. Thank you for the update. This could be a major safety concern.

Toyota just called and said corporate has asked them to replace the ABS actuator. The truck is booked in for Friday and they will be performing the transmission TSB as well (I asked last time and they didn't do it). Lets hope this solves everything!

Toyota replaced the master cylinder and ABS actuator in my truck. Pedal still goes to the floor slowly. It doesnt feel spongy though.

Hopefully their fix works on your truck.

Hopefully my final update. At the third trip to the dealer they replaced the ABS actuator (they already replaced the master cylinder on the second trip). I've only done a little bit of driving, but so far so good!

I also had the dealer perform the transmission TSB. I didn't have many complaints about the transmission, but I did notice the delayed up shifting when on cruse control. Since then I didn't have any day to day issues with the transmission, I'm not positive if there is a significant difference. However, I think the truck is more responsive due to holding a slightly higher rpm (rather than downshifting to 1000 rpm all the time) which makes it feel a bit faster!

add another trd offroad to the braking issues. Press pedal, hold pedal, slowly goes to the floor. Also during startup press pedal, start engine usually results in brake pedal moving up(pushing against foot), it fails to do this now.

After 10k miles with no issues at all, today I was driving and felt my brakes lil loose, then on a red light my pedal, slowly, went all the way to the floor, just as described per OP.
Just check the cilinder and fluid, everything looks Ok
I'm dropping my truck this Sat for oil change and get the brakes checked. Glad I find this post because, now I know is not normal. At first I thought it might be a new thing for this truck, but since I don't remember feeling it that loose before Ill better make them check the brakes.

After reading all your posts on your braking issues and what was changed , do you still have problems ? Or did the items that were replaced fix the braking issues ? Please update.

My 17 TRDOR does the thing you described when the pedal builds pressure upon starting. I've also noticed that sometimes (more often than not) when I press the brakes, the pedal will randomly have a slight "vibration" for about 2 seconds then quit. Almost as if there's some sort of electrical motor sending vibrations through it. Even does it sitting still. Anyone else experience this?

Kind of a hard item to live with !! To me , good brakes are better that having all kinds of horsepower from the motor .
