I bought a new 2012 4Runner (in 2012). I ordered the vehicle the way I wanted it. They explained that they were shipped over from Japan and that they would pick the closest one to my order and then add the "port installed options" to make it how I wanted. You did not actually order it from Toyota, they fitted out the closest one they could find.

By the way, I just joined because I put a deposit down on a TRD Pro. I'd guess I'll be waiting for a while.

I am dying to know what big T will do with the automatic transmission and the howling rear axle assembly in 2018

Just to give you an idea, here are the 2018 TUNDRA colors. My Tacoma colors haven't been updated yet.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
I DID not say you could order outside of what the normally available options are on a given model. What I did say mine was specified to be built and it had my dealers/or my name on it before it was built. Call the "procedure/order whatever you want -- I ,and my dealer (Riley Toyota) call it an "order"
We did the same type of thing with our Subaru OB -- except then there was one already allocated to the dealer and we hit the order timing just before the car was to be built --then we only waited 5 weeks.
The Tacoma was not allocated to my dealer at the time they put in my "order"

Do you know why deliveries are so late in the year? I drove my '17 home at the end of august last year.

these are just projected delivery times. It depends on region and if it's at the Mexico or Texas plant. Texas are shipped out faster and don't require custom check.

What do the red 'x' and green 'check' signify?
Any info on when 2018 Tundras will be available?

Green mean it's what option is currently checked. Red means that option requires a package to get that item or that option is not compatible with the current options.

2018 Tundra first orders went in 5/1/17 and first deliveries projected 9/1/17

Ey! Good taste. There were about 10 Tacomas on the lot when I bought mine and they seemed really excited to get rid of mine which is that exactly minus the convenience package. Luckily I sensed that right away. I love the set up, just a no bull shit small pickup. It is my favorite vehicle I have ever owned.

Thanks. With cement now confirmed on Off-road Tundras, it seems more likely to be a color option for the Tacoma too.

its possible there is no 2018 announcement yet because there are no major changes. If there was anything worth mentioning we would have heard it by now along with the Tundra news. Also don't want one of your trucks taking the spotlight away from another.

My guess, same options, possibly new paint color.

If there were big changes to the Taco they wouldn't announce it. If they did it would completely kill the sales for the 17 until the new one came out. Was just at the dealer yesterday looking at 17s, he told me big changes are coming to the tundra (not diesel), but nothing (as far as he knows) to the tacoma aside from color and safety standard crap (he could also be hiding something from me so i buy a 17). He also told me if either the tundra or taco would get a diesel, it would be the taco. Mainly to compete with the new Colorado.

Well I Am ready to trade my 16 colorado on after test drive for 50 miles yesterday. Definitely can't use cruise control at 65 to 75. It just keep shifting up and down. If you don't put on cruise you can keep it down some. Not sure why they can't change the trans and gearing . They said that I can give. $1000 deposit and they can get me 17 cement trd.pro and will be 6 weeks. I told.them I want to wait and get 18 being this close and not really any great rebates. They said they have nothing yet and not for sure if cement will.or won't be in 18 model for trd pro or tacoma at all they have no info still. I told them.i guess I'll gamble and hope they keep.cement. Figure it still gives me more time to think about the shifting with me being on btw commute daily 80 miles.

From what I have seen and read the 18 Tundra does away with the Pro, adds a TRD Sport, does away with Regular Cab, and has that Safety Sense stuff.

Thanks, I love it however a marriage and growing family have us really needing a DC so I'm hoping to be able to order an SR with Tow and Conv only in silver, doesn't matter how long it takes. We have two older paid for SUVs we can use.

I'm really curious what they change as they do change things even if ever so slight.

It surprises me that Toyota hasn't touched the powertrain on the tundra since 2007. The tundra needs a powertrain update more than the Tacoma does to compete with the full size pickups.
