It's raining here today and I don't want to climb under the truck. Here is the hole by the cross member on the passenger side. I would say my thumb is 20 mm wide. I can stick my finger all the way through the frame. The holes on the drivers side by the cat is way bigger. IMG_1196.jpg

It was coated two or three years ago. The truck has 70k on it. It is getting inspected as I type this.

All it shows is an example of frame and the "hot spots" to check for holes and the steps the dealership needs to take to process the claims. I don't know if any of the steps are different than the previous recalls/campaigns, but it seemed pretty standard stuff to me. I'm pretty sure I have it at my desk at work and I can look at it again. It also states that the technician has to be a Certified Toyota tech and there is a training module that needs to be completed before the tech can perform the work.

I read through everything today just to make sure that there would be no issues with my truck and my two concerns were answered in the FAQ section. Warranty on the frame is "attached" to the vehicle, not the owner and that it didn't matter if it had the CRC coating done before or not. When I first bought the truck, they wouldn't do anything because the previous owner ignored all the recalls so they wouldn't replace the frame. Now, with this campaign, that is not the case. As you can see in the scans, I marked the two questions that concerned me.

Seeing that you are work for a dealer, what are the odds of replacement if the frame has been modified to fit a Rough County 6 inch lift prior to my ownership? The cross member under the front diff was cut to allow room for the diff to be lowered due to the lift.

The way I read and understand the document, as long as it is not a branded title, (salvage, reconstructed, etc) I would think you would be good. Unless all the rust is around the area that was modified, then you may have problems.

That's good to hear. And no, the rust is nowhere near the area that was modified for the front diff.

Great information thanks! Im currently waiting for word on my 2008 Toyota Tacoma which recently failed the inspection. I just purchased it with just over 32k miles on it. From everything Ive been told by Toyota and the dealer I should be getting a new frame. Not bad for not even owning it for a month.

Guys--have an 06 with 77000 miles and its not just the frame that worries me. The bolts that hold the exhaust shields have all rusted off leaving the shields hanging on the exhaust. Dealer took the long shield off telling me I don't need it and zip screwed the one covering the gas tank back up. I was told the one they took off would only raise the interior of my cab by 5-6 degrees--I'm like WHAT!!! Won't be going back to that dealer.

Here are some other issues related to the choice of steel they used. The short tang that holds on Bank2 sensor 2 oxygen sensor totally rust off and left the harness flopping around. Now if I didn't have some wrenching background I'd be out about $1,000 because it coded first for a bad computer and an oxygen sensor-well we know a toyota service bay would had replaced both. Being a smart man--I replaced the oxygen sensor and now no codes.

Next--the nut holding on the lower control arm onto the cross member is 90 rusted away--guess its a matter of time before that is a huge issue.

Next--the bolts on the transmission pan are so rusted my tranny guy had to replace 5 just on one side--said he has seen this on several Tacomas and on some has replaced more.

Next--there is no way I'll be able to wrench off the fill plug of the rear axle---most of the bolt is rusted away--so now what do I do?

ANyone try to change plugs with the rusted bolts that run through the coils that cover the plugs--again--just a huge amount of rust because of the cheap steel in the bolts.

When I replaced my drive belt--only broke because all the pulleys had so much rust on them they were actually sharpe enough that they cut the belt. Had to sand down each edge of each pulley --AGAIN--because of the power quality of steel.

Next--emergency brake cables--FROZEN==GUESS THAT'S NORMAL FOR A TACOMA TOO--WHY DID I NOT STAY WITH NISSAN (MY 04 FRONTIER WITH 207,000 FRAME LOOKS LIKE ITS 5 YEARS OLD

I live in northern Ohio and haven't found a 10mm hole yet but the entire frame is flaking on 90% of the frame.

This truck frame is a failure in every mechanics eyes except Toyota's.

This is more than a frame issue.
