Well, yes and no. Eating a balanced diet is kinda the basis, as well as being in some sort.of shape (besides "pear shaped") especially when you're "over the hill". Add water to that and keeping ahead of dehydration is best. Knowing the signs and pacing yourself are really important. Last night I was drinking a bottle of water every 30 minutes. I should have had one down every 20 minutes. I never pee'd the entire 9 hours I was out there. The last 2 hours I was up to a bottle every 15 minutes. So that told me I never fully recovered from the night before.

It's best to have another person along so you both can watch each other as well as share the workload and lower stress.

All your points are pretty valid ...just move water to #1 and you will be closer to correct. The body can go a lot further without food then water ! There is a reason your body is 60% water in a adult male body ! However water makes up a Lower percentage in fat tissue then lean tissue . So 1. Drink plenty of water ! No caffeinated tea does not count. 2 eat healthy. 3 cardio cardio cardio and weight training !
If you like you can mix weight training with cardio by doing lower weights and higher reps with rest times shortened in between sets !
And rest as in sleep is your friend !!

    Nice !!!

Have you done any of the hard core trails up there like Fordyce creek trail or the Rubicon ?? . I've done both and really like the those trails . I'm bummed that CDF destroyed Rubicons Little Sluice box to make it easier for people so less body and mechanical damage

I wish I could go tankless but it's costly when all we have is electric.
I'd have to bring in an LP tank and all the work is too much for me right now. Got enough on my plate

Fortunately my house came with it and we have natural gas. But, (getting back to that quest), it's still being considered as a viable option for the buildings at work (as well as adding propane). Luckily we have some time to figure out what we want to do and making the best decision. Truth be known, I'd really like to go solar but the hot water demand is too high in the winter when the snowbirds are here qnd the recovery time is too great to overcome with solar.
