    I installed a Hayden unit and it made a HUGE difference in temps according to my UltraGauge. I was worried at one point that it wasn't allowing my trans to get hot enough because it was doing such a great job of cooling.

    But if i avoid the fan, i'll want a remote thermostat to aid in heating up during cold weather. Which will also mean, i'll bypass the radiator and the hard lines below the radiator. I'll just run the hoses to the cooler straight from the hardlines on the passenger side below the motor.

    This derale plate cooler has thisin the description:
    Controlled by viscosity, thicker ATF is returned directly to lube through two bypass openings in the stacked plate core, while thinner ATF is directed through the core to cool as operating temperatures increase.

    I think they all work like this but does this mean that this will allow the fluid to reach operating temp in colder weather without an extra thermostat to regulate the usage of the supplemental cooler above?

    Hey justinlhc, it looks like you mounted directly to condenser. I was going to do it that way but read that some people had damage to condenser from rubbing. What has been your experience. Tia

    Nope, mounted it to the brace in the middle. You can see the shiny bolt at the top. It fit perfectly with enough room for each cooler to wiggle if necessary. I wouldn't be comfortable mounting directly to the condenser. I live in AZ so my condenser is extremely important. :thumbsup:

    The bottom is also securely mounted, I just can't remember where or how exactly.

    Ok I see that now. It was an optical illusion of it being so close to condenser. I like where you mounted it I'm going to do same location. Thanks

    More room for install without the oem tow pack cooler.

    Your install will be even better if you install with hoses up to ensure no trapped air. Pretty much every plate and fin cooler manufacturer recomend ports on side or top and side ports emphasizing flow path to purge air.

    Tube and fin designs are not critical since they are simply extensions of the hoses.

    The linked cooler is not very large and may not work well. Mine was twice the size and about twice the BTU rating.

    The text about cooler operation is accurate.

    If you want a hidden cooler, they make a design, plate and fin, with a shroud and fan. Designed to be mounted away from harm. No reason this could not be mounted in a protected area, unseen.

    Yes, that is a huge cooler with very high BTU capacity. Guessing it was a tight fit unless there was no oem tow cooler or it was removed.

    Your truck no doubt. Any fluid cooler whether coolant, oil, or trans should be oriented to self purge entrapped air. Ports down invites a trapped air bubble that can limit cooler function or drop fluid level as the bubble purges out. All the best and many miles.

    Interesting. I just assumed if an air bubble existed it would just get pushed/purged out as soon as fluid started flowing. :confused:

    Possibly but maybe not. I will say though I have seen oem plate coolers ports down, however they were not very tall.
