Isn't that the guy from captain fatty's that one time? Who got his truck for like $1,200? I wonder if he still wants my old rear bumper. Or my new dual swingout. I should probably get in touch...

Motomon, what do you mean by 'open'? i just saw a post about sherman pass recently being reopened post schaeffer fire but also saw a FB post from the forest service about serious road damage from a storm. On another note, I heard there are multiple downed trees on Jeep Road.

Sherman pass is an access road to get there, but the paved road "9 Mile Canyon" is open. There is road damage, but one area has a bypass and the second area is passable.

Is 9 mile canyon not the same as Sherman pass / kennedy meadow Rd / 22S05? I thought the only way to monache Meadows was through 21S36

9 Mile Canyon is the paved way up to Kennedy Meadows for all the houses and toyhauler campsites. It comes off highway 395.
Sherman Pass come from the opposite side by Kernville.

And yes, 21S36 is the Jeep road to Monache. Here's the lastest from a friend that just went to the end of Monache:
"The trail up to the Sequoia / Inyo Forest border is basically unchanged.

The first river crossing is completely gone, the gentle slope to the water is now a 5ft vertical crop into almost 4 feet of water. I waded out to it and the bottom is kind of a clay, think a mix of Pudding and molasses

Second crossing is wider than normal and 18 to 24" depending on which holes you hit going across

River crossing at the "river campsites" it wider than normal, and I just barely touched the back bumper going across. Water is moving fast enough to make lighter vehicles drift to the side a bit but had no effect on the truck.

There are 2 sections of washout between the upper meadow crossing at bake oven. The first one is not passable without a serious rig or a ton of effort. a bypass is in place. The second washout is not bad and is pretty easy to straddle and never even touch the damage. People have already started putting a bypass around the second washout as well, but it is not needed and is only doing unneeded damage to the meadow. If your vehicle does not have the clearance to just drive the second washout you never would have made it to the meadow in the first place."

So does this first crossing have a passable bypass? It sounds impassable yet your comment also makes it sound like you got through.

In short can a stock 4x4 TRD Tacoma make it through? I've never been but I was planning a trip there in two weeks.

Yes, based on the info I have, you should be OK. However, things can change so if you're uncomfortable, call the ranger and ask.

Thanks for the info. Did you drive through the four feet of water mentioned?

That's deeper than I'm capable of sadly. I'll call the ranger the week before I head up that way. Hopefully we'll get some pics soon.

You don't have to do the first river crossing to get to Monache. Call the ranger to verify. :)
