Been a while. What is it you're looking more info on?

 

LeadNav and California Map functionality.

 

Oh, right. They're a dream once you get it all figured out. My pal became a whiz with lead nav and has showed me how to make my own routes with turn by turn instructions. As for Cali trail maps mammoth and the eastern Sierras have been added. I inlay the transparent map onto the top map most of the time but switch to land boundaries when I'm unsure of the territory I'm in. Id be happy to show you how to use it all desperately and together. Remind me to bring my mac next time I see you and we'll plug in and geek out on all of it for a while...hopefully at camp.

 

Sounds good Greg... I know @desertjunkie760 would also like to learn the ropes on this so maybe we can do an idyllwild or Sierras trip and have you show us how to best use these tools.

 

Yeah, I'm working on getting all of it on my computer now. I downloaded the Galileo app to get an idea of what I'm looking at but is the LeadNav that much better for the price?

I just tagged you guys in my build thread for the same question just because the BS thread has a lot of traffic flow.

 

Don't remember what I paid for LeadNav but I loaded it on my iPad Mini. I don't think it was too expensive. I now need to buy a separate Bluetooth GPS Receiver like this:

It's only $20 but compared to the $2 for Galileo there is a big price difference. Just trying to understand how it all comes together. I don't have enough free space on my Iphone.

 

Yeah... That is where @goblue82 will be able to help you. He would be able to show you how the app interfaces with California Map. It looked really slick when we were up at Idyllwild this spring.

 

I suggest lead nav. Galileo is ok but lead nav is far more polished and the capabilities are outstanding. Well worth 20 bucks in the bush. Its better geared for off roading where Galileo is bettwr suited for hiking. As for space on your phone I usually suggest to people to get a dedicated unit (I went iPad mini) strictly for the data that's gonna be used from outlets such as Cali trail maps. Additionally I dont keep all gpx files loade in the iPad all the time. If I'm going to Death Valley ill load that area and remove the rest - and so on. You can usually find someone hard up for cash on CL and get a good condition iPad for relatively cheap. Delete all the bullshit and apps they installed and presto! You have a dedicated GPS unit. Just be sure it has GPS. The early ipads(s) didnt come with GPS.

 

I'm downloading LeadNav now since I have a Itunes credit that will cover the cost and i'll never use otherwise. Just watched some youtue vids on the program and it looks great.

Madison and my dad both have Ipads that I'll probably "tactically acquire" for the first few trips until I get a better idea of the setup I want.

 

LeadNav puts all the others to shame. It's a professional app. Off road racers use it.

Dual XGPS150A and xps160a. From LeadNav website seems like either works just the 160 is the newest version.

 

Reviews on Amazon actually were better for the 150 than the 160. The 160 is almost twice the price of 150. Seems like a no-brainer but I don't want to get the cheaper one if it isn't as good.

I havent tried to fit a bypass in there but if it will clear tires and frame, I vote for bypass!

 

Solid. And keep that little guy on airplane mode while in use in the wild. I also suggest getting a car charger greater than 5.0v. Those cheapy 7-11/gas station chargers won't keep up with the iPad power demand. I bought a powerful charger at best buy for about 20 duckets.

 

Of course you do. Haha. What would be the primary benefit of a triple vs a twin tube? I don't know if they make a triple in a 2.0 but I found twins in that size. Would it make a huge difference if I'm not a dedicated desert truck?

 

As far as I know (which is limited) the more tubes, the more areas of adjustment you have. To where you can tune the initial part of the stroke vs the later part of the stroke.

 

Agreed with both the information and the limited amount of knowledge. If I had a twin I could tune lower and upper as opposed to lower, mod, and upper.

 

You could get a bypass to fit. Need to run 1.5" or 2.0" wheel spacer. The difference in the 2 and 3 tube is tuning your bump zone. You use a 3rd tube like tuning a bump stop.

Also Shane, BAMF recommends 3.5" BS to clear a King 2.0 smooth body.
Your wheels have 4.3" BS which means you'll need at least a .8" spacer. Probably be best to go 1.00" or 1.25" and have room to spare. You'll have a wide stance though.

 

Could also have the tubes layed out like option 2. Then you can tuck the tire in and just do 2 tubes. Bypasses are typically made to order.
