Hello everyone. I have installed a Kenwood double-din GPS head unit in my 2007 Tacoma and now have some issues presenting themselves. My odometer backlight flickers. Also, my power windows sometimes fail to function. From what I can gather on various forums, this is an issue with the illumination/dimmer functions or possibly a burned out rheostat. I have a new rheostat available to me, but I don't want to put it in and burn out another one. What is the proper way to wire up the illumination and dimmer wires? Out of all of the topics I have read, no one has given a clear description of how to wire these properly to avoid the electrical issues being faced by so many installers. Thanks for any help!

I went ahead and disconnected the illumination/dimmer wire and still had flickering issues on the odometer. Then I swapped out the rheostat and everything seems fine. *Fingers crossed that the odometer and windows continue to function properly* Unless someone has any ideas on how to properly get the dimming feature working with a Kenwood unit (DNX890HD), I'll just set the brightness to a suitable setting for daytime/nighttime and leave it.

Yeah, bad idea to connect the dimmer/illumination wire. IIRC, I read somewhere most aftermarket stereo dimmers operate at a different voltage than most stock illumination. So when you connect the two, all sorts of chaos and electrical issues can ensue. It very well could have even fried your rheostat.

When your windows didn't roll up, what eventually causes them to do so? Mine just started intermittently refusing to go up...
