Just turned 30 and been an ICU nurse for 8 years now. Its back breaking and mentally draining job but I love what I do. I work 3 days 12 hour shifts and always have 4 days off so its always a long weekend with my little ones to get to play with dirt and see places.
    (Sorry guys pic heavy haha):crapstorm:

Use to wear Matterhorns and switched to Georgia Boot Gore-tex insulated 12" boot with met guards last time. Been wearing the same pair for 9 years. Comfortable from the minute I put them on. Expensive at $330 list though. I paid $220 for them from a local shop that discounted them for me.

Sweet, a tad bit over the budget for me... Also, I forgot to mention, they need to be polished

They polish up well. Try some Matterhorns they also polish very nice and should be around the $150 mark.

I've always worn them. I'm a firefighter/paramedic. I've got a separate pair that I wear that can be polished though. I'm not sure if UA makes any that will fill that need.

I know their tennis shoes hold up well but know nothing about their boots.

I know some of these boots are expensive but look at the long run of not needing to buy boots very often. You get what you pay for in work boots. My dept gives us a $80 a year boot allowance so when we buy a pair they reimburse us $80 of the price.

For the state of California you can work in ICU with an associate degree as long as the hospital you work for is willing to hire and train you to work in critical care.
But most hospitals here now "expects" but not "requires" Bachelors degree in selecting their applicants.
But yes I do have my Bachelors. I thought about getting my Masters or go to FNP school but the added stress/cost for me is not worth it. Im happy where Im at. Plus my wife is a nurse as well. We make good enough to get by.

I saw the other day on Oakley's govt sales website that they have a pair of duty boots now too that are polishable. You might want to try there if you're signed up for their website.

    http://www.oakleysi.com/?utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=g&utm_term=e-oakley si&utm_content=registerlp&utm_campaign=brand&cid=ps_Oakley+SI_G-BRD-TM-Exact_Core-TM_oakley+si&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIiJ37rcan1QIV2D2BCh1fhgIpEAAYASAAEgJ5mvD_BwE

You do have to work for a govt agency (city, county, state or federal) to be allowed to use their site. They quit letting private services sign up.

    Danner Acadia

    Haix AirPower

I've worth both these boots for about 5 years now. The Haix are really comfy, but I hate how the pull tab on the back always catches my pant leg and keeps it up. Looks unprofessional as shit. Also they're a solid boot (Read: Not as flexible) so squatting or kneeling is a bit of a bitch.

Danner's wear more like a shoe. Take polish really well once you break the leather in to accept it. My only complaint is my feet get even more sweaty than they do in the Haix. And the Haix are far, far, thicker boots. (Both suck ass for traction on ice. Pure hockey pucks. But the Danner is better in snow and mud. Much more aggressive sole pattern.)
