I'm not looking for problems with my truck, as much as a few guys on here want to believe, but I don't have a lot of faith in Toyota recalling all of the affected vehicles.

My diff is leaking; there are plenty of guys whose diffs are leaking that ARENT on that recall.

How many people have shitty CPS units that didn't make this recall list?

I'm probably one of them, build date 09/15 and no CPS recall - yet.

Looked at my old CKP sensor last night, and while I couldn't get it to show up on an iPhone picture well enough, there was definitely some sort of flaked stuff caked on in spots which makes more sense after having read the detailed description posted here. Also makes me wonder about the static part even with the replacement ("89") CKP I installed... I'll get some video, but do others see (while sitting idle - no A/C) the RPM gauge wiggle a bit? Almost like it vibrates, no more than 50-100 RPMs but it does steadily bob - again ever-so-slightly but I've never seen that in a vehicle but just assumed it was the way this was designed.

My dealer was harassing me for trying to order the part. They said if something is wrong with it, the warranty should fix it. I told them that i don't have the time to ride around with them and tell me the issue is normal. I ended up ordering the part from a Toyota dealer in Ohio online. They called me and were also asking me why the warranty or recall would not handle the issue. The dealer told me to submit the receipt to Toyota to see if they would reimburse me on the part. My trucks sticker said it was built 10/16. That's a little close to the deadline for me. I do not understand why they would change the part number for all of the trucks and vehicles that use the same engine if the defect does not extend a little more then they think.

build date on mine is 12/15 but searching the vin shows no recalls?? :notsure: It's a shame too because I just replaced the sensor myself a couple of weeks ago with the 89 part.

So, mine was built 04/16, but the recall website says I'm not on the list??

What defines how you make the list or not? It appears that I fall right in the middle, but no notice?

** Update - finally read the post about being when the engine was built... guess I'll have to do some more digging to confirm if I'm safe or not.

I called the dealer in Murfreesboro TN yesterday to make an appointment for the repair. They said it shows that each dealer is only alotted a certain number of sensors so it could be a while before they get the part in.

I've been pleased with their service in the past, but I'm slightly skeptical... Basically they ordered the part and added me to the list. So I'm back to waiting at the moment.

On a side note they asked how I knew about it so quickly. I just said I've been concerned about the recall since I heard about it and I've kept close tabs on it since then. I never mentioned TW, because in the past when I've brought in TSBs I could sense some disdain for the forum when I mentioned it. Although the forum has some annoying parts to it, it has been a good source of information for me.

My parts guy is trying to get in an order of these sensors but they're being told the same, that the sensors are only allocated for warranty claims. Fingers crossed I'll get one...the parts guy is a buddy of mine so I've got about as good a chance as possible to get one.

I asked at my dealer today specifically about the recall during my 10k service and they said they got a notice about the recall but Toyota is still making the replacement parts so there's nothing they can do now. After 2 hours in the waiting room with screaming kids there I wasn't in the mood to push it

Same here....been at a honda dealer flinging parts for 14 years. Known the Toyota parts manager since he started there....told him to get me one and it just showed up yesterday....I didn't argue. The old one did has some black crud on the tip, i replaced it with the new one(90919-05098) and it seems to run smoother since i put it in last night..

I fixed mine already even though it wasn't on the recall, so I will just put the original back in and they can replace that..

That's great to hear! Mine seems to be getting worse over time so I'm very interested in seeing the condition of my current sensor when I replace it with the new one. Knowing they changed the gap should mean we know what to look for in comparison to see if there is truly a difference in physical design.

yeah, my truck drove incredible today - in D. seriously. when it drives like that, the steering wheel feels like that "perfect bat" feeling where it just feels "right" in your hands and nearly effortless to drive. but over the weekend (it was really hot...) I felt some of the bog and heavy steering stuff even if I turned off A/C. so I do wonder if the "89" I replaced with is slowly succumbing to the same issues and maybe with the A/C generating heat on top of near 100+high humidity temps causes the rotor to expand a bit more to generate the static electricity cited in the detailed link.

Would love to see a side-by-side comparison. Next person who gets the part and replaces it themselves please post up whether you can tell the difference in design (gap?). My parts folks are saying mine will ship tomorrow so likely next week before I can determine whether I pissed away $90 on the same part I already bought :)

That's good to hear. I ordered mine last night from the same place. The dealer told me I need to leave my truck with them for at least a day and a half and they won't provide any loaner or rental. Since I drive for work, that isn't going to work for me. I sent the service manager some data showing him the issue and we'll see what his response is.

That's not even to replace it. That's just the "diagnostic" because my word and techstream data isn't good enough. They would then order the part and send me in my way to wait a week or two for the partst to show up. Then I would probably have to bring it back and leave it again.

*edit. I'm not on the recall list but have symptoms.
