So I went in for 5K service and mentioned the hood flex and the tech looked at it, then drove it, came back and contacted the factory to order a new hood. He said he's never seen one do that at only 5000 miles. It's done it from day of delivery and has gotten a lot worse. I just hope after they go through the trouble of getting in a new one and painting it that it won't do the same thing. I'm glad they stepped up and are taking care of it though. This is my first Toyota, I love the truck, I just hope it doesn't have any other major issues.
    Great service though.

Should have got a sport hood and that way you won't have to worry about the flexing anymore!

It may had just come separated underneath. It was very common when the 16s first came out. Body shops would reapply the adhesion.

That would be great , but I doubt they would cover that under warranty.

make sure you look at the paint carefully before accepting it from them. Sometimes they do a half ass job on the paint

It's a 2017 and it did come separated, but the tech said they had no official fix for it , so best to replace the hood.

    I disagree. :D

I paid the difference in material, labor, and parts cost...

I saw you had a 17 in your details to the left, I was just mentioning that it started back then as well so you wouldn't feel like it was just yours and think you had a lemon. Best of luck with the replacement.

That's my main concern...it's black and I'm a little ocd . The first thing I told them today when I arrived for regular service was not to wash it.

It would be worth fronting a few extra bucks out of your pocket for a scooped hood and add that to how much the non scooped one cost!

Thanks, I'll call the dealership and see if they will do that.

    Update:
The dealership said no to the hood with the scoop..which is okay with me as long as my new hood is painted correctly and doesn't end up with the same issue. I took it to them today and it's in the body shop getting painted this week. They did give me a 2017 white Tacoma 4x4 AC SR5 to use.

I took my truck to the local dealer for the same problem.
I was reffered to a local body shop by the dealer for assesment provide a quote for repair.
The body shop's remedy is to re-glue the hood where it has separated.

The work has been approved but need the time to take my truck in.

Also during this experience I also discovered the bed of the truck is not aligned to the cab.
I mentioned it to the service writer and she started to get a little apprehensive with me.

Don't get me wrong I love my truck but the as the trend goes the Toyota Service is down the tubes.

Got my Tacoma back today! Hood looks good so far. I would not let them wash it so I can't tell how well the paint job is until I get a chance to wash it tomorrow. No flex though, which is better than it was when I bought it 2 months ago.

Update: Hood had multiple issues. Missed about 2” area of paint on one side. Missed two areas of paint on front lip, missed a lot of areas on the underside. Has a bunch of swirls and a bunch of small “half moon” shaped marks all over it. Overall just a bad paint job. Dealer is going to arrange to send back for re-paint. Guess I’ll be without my truck for another week.
