Just installed a new ARE Shell and was curious if anyone has attempted to remove the lower seal on the bottom edge of the shell? Fairly happy with the unit overall, but the seal is really bugging me as far as aesthetics and extra unnecessary lines. I was wondering if I could remove it without:

    A: affecting the shell's paint
    and or
B: affecting the function of the of the shell.

Any thoughts or war stories would be appreciated, thanks!

When I ordered my ARE CX shell last year, I was told that the trim was required and if taken off would expose an "unfinished" fiberglass edge. At least that is what the ARE dealer told me.

    Noted, and thanks!
Can't say the dealer I went through was super helpful or insightful.
I won't try to pry the trim piece off, just resent from now until the end.

Yep, I've seen one that had it knocked off by a falling branch and it's just a fiberglass edge. Leave it on or figure out some other way to finish- and protect- that edge.

Interesting - I just received my new CX HD and it does not have this seal - looked at a few other ones and don't see it as well.

Is this supposed to be on all the shell, an option, or what?

Yes, it is an option while you place the order. No cost different.

Has anyone tried this yet? I just bought a used cx with this trim and it’s starting to separate from the shell. I have to get it painted though so I don’t mind it being unfinished...unless it looks bad.
