Anyway to make the gear number not pop up on the HUD when it shifts? I'm fine with it being just down in the corner

Has anyone done any serious towing using the ShiftSense Pro? I was wondering if it would help performance when towing a travel trailer.

Just ordered a shift sense pro. Hopefully it arrives before my summer vacation so I can really test it out.

Another satisfied customer! Received my SSP very quickly and the install was super easy. I ended up tucking it under the Qi charger and I can still hear it beep when it engages and disengages. Drove a mix of city and highway and I am very pleased with the results. This is a must have for the third gen. I look forward to using this while towing my boat this weekend.

Who can give input on how this works on steep grades or lives in the mountains?

It definitely helps, but I still get a fair amount of back & forth shifting trying to stay in the 60 mph range while going over steep grades here in UT.

I use SSpro almost all the time when I'm heading up the mountain. It'll hold the gear long enough to stay in the power band. Definitely shines in that environment.

I have on occasion had the truck downshift before SSpro here in the Sierra Nevadas. But OP has said there is some overlap in the shift maps when the pedal is pushed down far enough.

Also I tend to use D (or S manually) when going down grade b/c SSpro won't down shift early enough for engine braking, by design. Pretty minor though.

It is better than OEM, but there are times when the OEM shift points over ride the SSPro shift points and you'll get stuck in 4th gear, and sometimes all the way down to 3rd gear. The thing will sit and scream at 5500 RPMs thanks to the terrible OEM mapping and lack of low end power.

I run into the "between" position in gearing....rpms way high to keep up speed or it bumps down a gear and not enough power to keep speed. I don't like driving my truck at +5k rpm's for 3-4 miles in order to keep my speed up (and this is with a basically empty truck).

check post 1431 - maybe less in weight than some tow but certainly qualifies as steep mountainous grades.

I have no clue what super fuel they sell in CO...but there is no way that I get anywhere near your stated mpg while towing or not. I put my 2 seater RZR on a lighter weight trailer and I'm lucky to get over 10 mpg up any incline. I'm all stock with 265/70/17" tires. I'll grab some video while driving up over Parleys Summit 7300 ft (not that high) here in Salt Lake City (main 3 lane hwy route to Park City Utah) next time I drag my RZR that way to show current mpg and shifting.

At lower speeds, no problem, but get above 50-55 mph and its shift city trying to keep up speed.

I am hoping someone can help me confirm how my Shift Sense is operating. When I pull away from a complete stop at a stop sign, red light, etc., my Shift Sense is in 2nd gear. It never shifts into 1st gear even when pulling away from a complete stop. Is this normal? Why wouldn't 1st gear ever be used? Thanks all!

    Operation manual:
"the lowest command hear selection provided by shiftsense pro is S2. Even though the dash display may indicate S2 , the vehicle will still use 1st gear when starting out from stop. Sifts between 1 and 2 are heavily influenced by torque-convertor operation, which the OEM mapping handles well so it is left as-is."

S mode is a gear limiter. S2 means transmission shifts 1-2 as it sees fit. Dcz108 didn't want to mess with the 1-2 shift. Explanation for reason should be earlier in thread.

Efit: i see someone already gave a better answer by quoting dcz108

Okay....so just to be sure....the fact that mine starts out from a dead stop indicating 2nd gear is normal??? It never indicates it is in 1st gear....ever. Normal???

S2 just means gear is limited to 2 at most, but it is actually in 1st when you start from a dead stop.

As an example, without SSP (or with SSP turned off), let's say you put it in S5. That means the gear can be anything from 1 to 5. Then move it to S4. That means gear can be anything from 1 to 4. SSP just does these S mode changes for you, all the way up and down between S2 and S6.
