Married at 22 (not late in life, but wait......)

Started college at 27, graduated with honors at 35

Got laid off from a 30 year employment at 50. Worked as a consultant for the next 2 years

Began performance driving schools, HPDE and autox at 52 for a number of years. Won a few events. Enjoyed being the fat old man in the underpowered car that embarrassed the kids in their gussied up rides.

Started very different career at 53.

Wife passed when I was 56

Remarried at 60, gained a 'free' son and 3 additional grandchildren

Retired at 61. Added salt water kayak fishing and biking to my routines. Have enjoyed what most would consider extensive world travel. Both remote and populous locations, with much more to go!

My life has been filled with joy, the mundane, disappointments and loss

I define regrets as being related to actions that were in my control that are either un-correctable or exceedingly difficult to correct.

So while I've made a bundle of mistakes, I have no regrets.

One reason may be that I learned early on to value relationships over things. Because true regrets almost always center around people.

Ok, not going to go into much details, here are the facts. Was a little kid for many years, lived in Ventura CA on the beach, surfed everyday, worked in a hospital, got married, got a great job for an Oil Co, got divorced, Oil Co went belly up, we all lost our jobs, a friend and myself opened our own business, moved onto another Oil Co after a few years, got married, got transferred, had 2 boys, left Oil Co for a technical job making a better income, used technical knowledge to plan bank robberies, decided prison was not a place I wanted to go visit, now I have worked for Law Enforcement agencies for almost 20 years. Going to retire and move out of CA. In all of this time, I have built some amazing off-road vehicles. Life is good my TW friends. Here is my current setup for playing in the dirt. Take care.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I think they should take middle schoolers on tours of prisons, including lunch.

Then take 'em again when they turn 16.

    Could be a deterrent.

Or at least 'self fulfilling' if the stupid in them is strong. o_O

Could make 'late in life' threads like this much more rewarding for them.

Carpenter since I was a kid.

Worked around and ended up at a firm that did large commercial construction projects.

Worked hard and was offered a position in the office side of operations.

Worked my way up and managed large projects. Worked 60+ hours a week for many years.

Last recession, my company merged with a larger company, and I was downsized. To be honest, I was also burned out.

Am old af, and back working as a carpenter, steady hours and much less responsibility.

Home most days before 4pm, and in much better physical condition - and happy.

    Rolling with the punches......

I learned early that whatever you do, always do your best- so really no regrets.

Grew up in Hawaii, California, and Virginia. When I was 15 my parents got divorced so I had to move back to this hell hole of Ar. Graduated College with a Business Degree and worked for about 8 months with my degree. A buddy of mine talked me into taking the Fire Dept. test for the largest FD in the state. At the time I had a great job but no structure in my life. I was 21 and did what I wanted when I wanted. Fire Dept called and I accepted the job. I loved the FD and for 24 years it's all I ever knew. I was very lucky and was promoted on both of my promotional exams on the first try so I made Captain in 10 years (the earliest you could make Captain). I was the 3rd fastest promotion on the FD since its founding back in 1879. I retired last month at the age of 46 and it turns out I'm worth more off the job than I was on the job (perk of getting promoted fast). So now I'm 47 and retired and making more money than if I was still employed.

My daughter is 12 so once she graduates high school we are moving to Colorado. I used to have a long bucket list but as I've gotten older my bucket list has shortened considerably. I want to drive the Pacific Coast Hwy all the way from South to North with no timeframe to go by. If it takes a month or longer so be it. I want to take a lap around the Nurburgring in a Ring Taxi (since I don't trust myself with a fast car). That's really about it.

I've pretty much done everything in life that I set out to accomplish. I was #2 in the state in tennis during high school and college. Raced BMX bikes from the time I was 5 and morphed into sponsored racing mountain bikes until 35 and a crash took me out of competition for good. Been to every state with the exception of Alaska. Played guitar since the age of 14. Went through a divorce when I was 24 and remarried when I was 30. Been married for 17 years now and have a wonderful wife and daughter. Daughter makes straight "A's" in school, is in choir, sings beautifully, and just made the dance team. She has chosen great friends, and has a great head on her shoulders so that's about all you can ask for.

My greatest regret is linked in my sig. I battled drug abuse / alcoholism for a few years but luckily I came out the other side with the help of my family. Been clean and sober for going on 6 yrs now.

My #1 passion is traveling. My #2 passion is photography / videography. I've got a shit ton of money tied up in photo equipment and drones. So that takes up a lot of my time now.

I've learned that each day is a gift. We are not guaranteed tomorrow so live each day as if it were your last. I hope I leave this world a better place than it was before I showed up. That's about all any of us can ask for.

When I was around 10 my biological father took me on a trip from Kansas City to LA. We traveled through Colorado and went to a maximum security prison to visit one of his friends that was serving time. I was bored and one of the guards asked me if I wanted a tour of the prison? "Sure" I said. He took me all over the place and asked if I wanted to see what the inside of a cell looked like. "Why not?". I vividly remember him yelling down the hall and telling one of the guards to "crack cell 13". About the time the door started to slide open I heard another voice from the end of the hall yelling "don't let him go in there". To late. I walked in and there were Playboy pictures completely covering every wall and almost all the ceiling. Porn was hard to come by back then so I was in heaven lol. I thought to myself "I'm going to prison! This is awesome!!!!". Well... never made it to prison but did make it to jail a couple of times in high school growing up.

Yes, my parents retired there and one day they will need me to take care of them for a few years. After they pass, I will move to Utah and play on the rocks when ever I want. Take care.
