@Tacomamike mike I think if they just added it to the costs either the hourly rate or some such thing you an I as well as others would not blink. The chemicals, disposal there of, uniforms / cleaning , rags etc are all accounted for I am sure. Figure the avg usage over a year or two and the amount normally used into the hourly rates. So even if the job did not require say break free sprayed on bolts it is still paid for in the over all scheme.

I had my own computer shop for 7 years are there shop supplies yes but minimal zip ties, heat sink grease wire tie mounts etc. it took me a few months to figure out how much of it I went through and added it to my hourly rate. Obviously not much or as many costs as a full on auto shop but the theory holds. I am not an accountant but had to take accounting for my degrees it taught how to figure out the costs associated with a business down to and including the cost for the accountant to do the books lol IE Licensing , Salary, Benefits , bldg upkeep, equipment upkeep, keeping the lights and heat on , shop supplies, haz mat disposal, spare parts , spare parts tax if the state has one and so on some of which yes they get to deduct over the life of the item . The costs are spread out amongst all phases of the business in this case new car sales, used car sales , mechanic shop, body shop etc . I do not think most ever think of the associated costs of doing business these days staying in compliance with all the federal and state and local laws.

Mike feel free to saw off the limb I an out on lol . It is kind of like people complaining about having to buy clothes or things to do their job and as the meme shows most mechanics / trades people in any field are always putting their own money out to buy tools and such to do their job. Though, the salaries paid to the trades folk are never on par with tool / equipment costs.

Your right . I just hate it when they make up reasons to charge more. Like I said I don't mind paying a profit . I never worked for free :), in fact far from it . But I don't like made up crap to try to make someone feel like it's not additional profit . Just be honest and raise your prices .
Everyone is entitled to a profit .
I just got done paying full asking price for my wife's new wagon. Probably a very healthy profit in it :). Good for them ! But every time I see a doc fee charged I go goofy :). Pretty silly I know but sometimes it's the little things that get ya!
