Just bought my first Tacoma ! It's a 2016 SR5 (went with a 4x2 cause I don't do anything or live anywhere that requires 4wd..) It's also my first vehicle purchase in general. (My hand-me-down Camry finally bit the dust)

I absolutely love this truck and can't wait to make it my own. I already have a few ideas on what I want to tweak and modify on this truck to make it uniquely my own. But I still want to keep the integrity of the truck's identity true to what it is. ( Although it is one of the less expensive trims, I worked hard to save up the money to make this purchase lol so don't want to change anything that makes a Tacoma what it is)

So if anyone has an ideas on where to start, and also some general guidelines to follow on what to stay away from modifying and what all is fair game. I would appreciate it!

No lift! Just got it yesterday but so far I'm happy with where it's sitting without one.

Congratulations on your new Tacoma! TacomaWorld is the Google for Tacomas, so search it for answers.

For interior upgrades, I'd first suggest replacing the interior lights (dome, map, vanity mirrors) with an LED kit (Amazon/eBay). I'd also highly recommend Clazzio seat covers. They will give you a work-out installing, but look fantastic.

If you have the "wonderful" 6-speed automatic, my condolences. Make sure the ATF level is checked MANUALLY by either yourself or someone you trust. Toyota has been shipping many with low levels. Several TacomaWorld threads can guide you. The 4-5-6 gearing and shift points Toyota put in made the EPA happy, but zaps the performance. Take a look at the Shift Sense device; there's a separate thread devoted just to it. It sounds like a major improvement for most of the automatic's problems. It's on my short list to purchase in the near future. Lastly, be aware that use of TacomaWorld will keep your wallet empty!

Hey all! I'm new to this thread, and a brand new TACO owner! Needless to say I love the frigen thing! My long-ish term goal is to make it an overland capable vehicle. It already has a 2.5" OME lift, but lord do I have questions!

Bought a Black16 DCSB SR5 2.7 when the first came out. Had it Toytec leveled, added 265/75/16 Destination ATs, step bars, added a tow package and wiring. It just seemed weak and I always wished I had 4x4. When I was told I had to wait 3 months or so for the rearend to get fixed I found that to be a good time to trade. I owed $22 on the SR5 and they Gave me $24,500 for it. Got a 17 TRD 4x4 Sport that was marked at $38,000 for $33,000. I couldn't be happier. I've had the Rough Country spacers installed, 265/70/17 BFGs, kept my old step bars, added the MBRP aluminized cat back and added the S&B intake.edited_5250a5d0-4d60-4e6b-8ccd-06763e87f2d6.jpg 20170910_125859.jpg

Okay, once again, you have to pardon my ignorance, but I just bought a 2017 TRD Offroad Double cab 5' bed. I like the tall skinny tire look and effectiveness so my question is...will 255 85 R16 or 235 85 R16 tires fit on my stock truck without trimming? Or will I need to lift the vehicle?

Most likely need a lift for 255s. 235s most likely would fit seeing as they are an 8" by 32" tire if my math is right.
Great choice, I am installing new rims and tires probably next week in the 255 size! The tires are 33s though, and generally speaking you need at least an inch of lift to clear 33s stock since it comes with 30.5s. I have a ~2.5" lift in the front

Orange virus tune is biggest per dollar horsepower upgrade available, and it just makes the truck a lot better to drive. Spending money on suspension parts is always a great place to start after the tune though, you get the most benefit in a daily driver out of upgrading the suspension parts because no matter what, in all conditions, and at any speed you will notice the benefits of good suspension tuning...

I just installed 255/80r17 on some ray 10s. Fit great with a little bit of plastic work. No lift

Oh shit! I stand corrected! Might be because mine are going to be on -19mm offset wheels that I need a lift to clear them

I can for sure see that, its almost double the ray 10 offset! I have read lots on the stock rims with no issues, but with my extra offset not so much the story.. I did just pop the cherry last night though so I am still experimenting :dancingbacon::rofl:
