    Hey guys,

So I just got my first Tacoma yesterday, it is a TRD Sport 4x2 in white. I am planning on replacing the headlights with led bulbs. I was a little bit confused on the high beam and low beam situation though. Do I need separate bulbs for them? I know that the low beams and the fog lights are the same bulb but what do I need for the high beam.

    Thanks for the help!

Congrats on the new Taco. The high beam and low beam are separate bulbs. If you want to replace the low beams, they are 2 bulbs and if you wanted to replace the high and low beams, they are 4 bulbs in total. Easy way to find the low beam is to follow the fish eye or projector straight back.

Do some homework on the LED setup. Some feel this projector assembly does not throw well with LEDs. I went with HID, which actually run cooler than halogen, and seem a good match with the assembly. Opinions will vary, just suggest you give it some consideration. Enjoy the truck.

You don't happen to know what bulb the high beam needs do you? Also is the high beam the bulb directly behind the low beam?

I thought about HID, but from what I read, a few people didn't like HID because they need replacing more often and they take time to warm up.

Turn on your high beam and look at your truck. Ok fine ill be nice. Its the 2 to the inside of your projectors.

Edit: wouldnt it be nice if they compiled useful information about your truck like bulb tyoes and printed it all in a book and gave it to people when they buy a new vehicle?

Very kind of you. I was too tired to go outside to figure it out, but I found an online manual. Now knowing that I need a h11 low beam and h9 high beam, can anyone point me in the direction of led bulbs for both?

No offense but op asks if high beam is mounted behind low beam. How da fuq could that work? Howabout if you want to modify something, get an idea what you are going to be working on. Takes less than a minute to pop the hood and pull one out. Does op realize one side low beam is a tight fit and some led bulbs will not fit? If he looked where the bulbs were he would know. Or just throw opt7 h11s in all 3 positions and complain about light throw like everyone else

You might want to look up Led Conversion thread, here:

There are a few links in there to other threads that are worth checking, like this one:

You might want to review all the . . ."I wired up some shit and now my truck is broke" threads.

Welcome to TW! On a side note you will find that people on here have very short tempers when it comes to commonly asked questions. It may be beneficial for you to do some google searching or forum searching for any questions you have before posting the question. It may save you the grief of sarcastic remarks or hateful comments.

The Low beams and fog lights are H11. The High beam is H9.

    HID (High Intensity Discharge)
A 35w HID is definitely brighter than LED but proper kits are expensive and require more wiring than plug n' play LED (highly recommend a HID relay kit). Stay away from the 50w HID kits, they burn too hot for our headlights. Check out www.diodedynamics.com for good quality HID kits. Also I wouldn't put HID in high beams because they do take a good 30 seconds to warm up so flashing people is pretty much useless. Plus its bad for the bulb and ballast to flick the lights on and off rapidly.

    LED (Light Emitting Diode)
LEDs are a great solution because they are simple to install. Just take out the old bulb and plug in the new bulb. They generally are cheaper as well for a quality set. However they do not put out as much light as HID. A very popular LED brand is Opt7 which can be found on Amazon. Do some research on which manufacturer you buy, some LED bulbs have large heatsinks that will not fit in our headlight due to the coolant jar being so close.

I get your frustration, but that will never end here or anywhere on the internet. Just today I went by BITOG, following threads. Filter forum - what is the best filter? Oil forum - what is the best oil? Anyone bothered by it should consider not browsing the net or grow accustomed to getting pissed off. For my part, I need to accept people getting pissed off. Shouldn't have jumped your sh*t.
